I’m wondering if anyone has any tricks to get this to work, or if there is potential for a patch to be sent out. I bought a new phone, and I’m trying to transfer my signal account/messages to the new phone from my Kompakt. In order to do this I must scan a QR code displayed on the new device using the camera in the signal (molly) app on the Kompakt. The signal camera shows black, and I cannot scan the transfer code.
If it helps, the camera does work in the section where you add contacts, and it works when linking another device. But neither of these work for transfers, it must be the main camera. I really hope I can find a way to get this working, as I don’t want to continue storing my messages on the kompakt, and I don’t want to have to wait months for an update.
Fortunately, I have linked my computer desktop … but, no: it’s not the same.
I had no trouble transferring my message history from Android to Kompakt,
but like you I couldn’t get the camera to give me more than a blacked-out {something}, when trying to transfer from Kompakt to Android.
Hi there. To me it sound like you are trying to link your new device to the Kompakt?Usually, when transferring an account or your message history, there is no camera involved, at least not for me.
On your new device, you could simply re-register your phone number again. This will disconnect your account on the Kompakt from the Signal.
Or, to transfer your messages you can either do a direct transfer which needs a PIN number to be confirmed on both devices. Or you create a backup on Kompakt and move over the file to your new phone and restore (make sure to take note of the long pass phrase!)
Good luck!
I had issues with the QR code as well, but using their beta backup function worked perfectly. It actually backed up all of my messages, which surprised me because it said it was only going to back up 45 days worth. But I still have access to archived threads from years ago that I wasn’t expecting to.
