If you could only download TWO apps to Mudita Kompakt, which two would you choose?

I can help a bit
When I was dumbing down on phones, I realized that for whatever I would need my banking apps, it can always wait and I can do it from home, therefore I don’t need them on my phone all the time.
About Garmin connect, your devices can save some data on themselves, it is plenty enough if you sync them once a day with a phone/tablet at home.
As I live internationally and travel I can understand your point with whatsapp and translation.

That is exactly how I deal with the issue with banking apps. If I need to do something with my finances, I’ll do it when I get home from work. It’s a great idea :+1:

I’ve been trying to communicate this so many times. I’ve never had a banking app on a phone & I’ve never paid with my phone. (shocking in 2025, I know). My life is planned in such a way that I can always use my laptop do do my banking, make transfers, shop etc. I get that no everyone is as old school as me, but it’s really NOT that essential to exist, at least for me.

Pocket Casts. I think the MK really needs a Podcast tool/app. If I weren’t able to sideload Pocket Casts, I wouldn’t have bought it.

Ditto.

  • Seeing my finances through the peephole of a cellphone has never appealed to me.
  • Having to pay through a cellphone is a digital dog-leash to me.

@kirkmahoneyphd Maybe we’re from ‘another generation’ LOL
I honestly wouldn’t feel comfortable having ‘everything’ on one device where I carry it with me at all times.
I remember, a last year, a friend of mine went Kayaking & dropped his phone in the rapids. It’s gone. (it was not an iPhone) so, Banking, all his pictures/memories, contacts on one device. He was in a Blackhole for DAYS.

Separation increases resilience. Having banking and payment apps on a cellphone reminds me of those combined-TV/DVD/VCR devices. They sound handy in theory, but…

Would you keep a smartphone in a drawer for the sake of Revolut?

BLIK transfer to a phone number and paying with blik code online might not be available from banking web app, at least for my bank. Truth is, regular cash pass or wireless transfer is still a working alternative.
It all gets down to Revolut alone having awful smartphone lock-in approach. Same way like many companies no longer allow you to purchase things but subscribe instead.

In Denmark, there is a popular app called ‘Mobile Pay.’ I really never used it much, and last week I deleted the account and the app accordingly. It was the only ‘bank-type’ app on my phone. Even for the ‘Mit-ID’ authenticator to access our government and general accounts (insurance, confirming online payments, etc.), I use the physical device.

The only external app from Apple (and I’ve deleted most of Apple apps) is ‘EasyPark,’ which unfortunately doesn’t work on Kompakt, as you confirmed. This was one of the reasons I canceled the order: I don’t want to carry two phones with me. Now, I have an iPhone with minimal apps and a grayscale filter to minimize the use.

@roberto, are you forced in Denmark to use EasyPark for all paid parking?

Unfortunately, there are several places where it is only possible to pay with the app; there are no physical parking payment options. There are also other alternative apps, which I assume use Google services, but EasyPark is the one with broader coverage in Copenhagen. Since my work involves daily travel to various places in the city, I cannot take the risk.

@kirkmahoneyphd I had one in my room in the 90s LOL

@roberto Pardon my ignorance, but are there no Parking Meters that takes cards in Copenhagen. This website states that there are.

Plus, there are other apps:

In theory, everything seems to work fine. In practice, there are places that state parking is only possible through the app, and sometimes not all of those apps are accepted, especially in subterranean or enclosed parking spaces.

There are also locations where the payment stations are far away. If you are unfamiliar with the area, you may spend more than 10 or 15 minutes looking for them. If you take longer than 10 or 15 minutes, you risk receiving a ticket, which you can contest, but it will likely be rejected because “it is your responsibility to ensure that you pay correctly, and you can use the app.”

I could get the weekly card, but I don’t work always in the same area.

In short, they make it difficult for you to pay at the payment stations, so you need an app and there are many limitations within the apps and the specific parking places.

But you are, of course, welcome to test them and see if any of them do not require Google services.

Doesn’t Easy Park support SMS parking?

No. At the moment, I think I’ve explored all the possible solutions.

I would add the reMarkable sw to connecto to my other e-ink device’s docs / papers / books. The other would be the somaFM app for the best community supported commercial free music source i have ever encountered in the past 25 years - with dedicated channel(s) for meditation and well being – like drone zone / groove salad or synphaera or dark zone

Do you mean you would also like to read some of the docs you have on your remarkable?

yes, indeed. i find the remarkable app suite and cloud quite good. example: I keep a quick note on my remarkable for instance shopping done w handwriting… but dont carry the remarkable w me all the time so its handy to have access to these notes from the phone, just to read. I also keep all my ebooks on the remarkable… ( have apps installed on my phone, pads and laptops but use the remarkable to edit, take notes, read, go to meetings etc… )
