I would like to know how others have found using the Kompakt have reduced stress?
Today I turned off the screen lock setting, logging in is much easier without the stress of punching in a pin code or using an authorized finger print touch on the side button.
I am looking forward the the return of the Mudita logo on the lock screen so i am sure which side is up.
The meditation app is a simple timer for breaks and naps.
It has reduced my stress because its not a smartphone. I just love using this phone, It does what I need and nothing else. There is nothing to mindlessly do on it. It really is the perfect phone and you can sideload anything you need. I just have one rule for my kompakt I will never put a browser on it.
Initially more stress for me, lots of tinkering and some judgy friends, however I’m over 6 months in now and I truly love the phone. I have an iPhone from work that I only carry at work, and an old iPhone at home that I basically use instead of a laptop, only on WiFi.
I use the kompakt as a tool to prioritize what’s important to me, and help with my self control staying off the socials etc. I’m trying to read more and look at screens less, so not having to carry around a second device to always have a book with me without staring a screen is my favorite thing. Overall it’s the e-ink that I think reduces my stress the most.
Not having a browser, banking apps, or email etc on my kompakt allows me to better control the time I spend compulsively checking things that really only need 1-2 times daily. I like not being as available/responsive, reducing my stress.
I have never used anything other than the stock launcher until this week. Katapult has every aesthetic wish that makes using this phone relaxing and more functional while still respecting the mudita intent. It may sound silly but the aesthetics of the experience really does reduce my stress. If you have to have a phone, it may as well be nice and soothing to look at. The opposite of a smartphone screaming advertisements at you every second.
I totally relate to this. For me the phone itself is actually soothing to use. There’s nothing stressful about it. I genuinely like the look and feel of the device, especially with the pebble gray case. It has this clean, minimal vibe that makes me want to use it less, but enjoy it more when I do use it.
The e-ink screen is a huge part of it too. Regular smartphones almost feel aggressive now with all the bright colors, notifications, ads, and endless scrolling. The Kompakt feels quiet in comparison. More intentional.
I also agree with what you said about limiting things like banking apps, email, browsers, socials, etc. It creates healthy friction in the best way possible. I check things when I actually need to instead of compulsively throughout the day. That alone lowers stress more than I expected.
And honestly aesthetics matter more than people admit. A device that feels calm and pleasant to use changes the whole experience. The Kompakt doesn’t feel like a machine trying to hijack your attention every second, and that’s probably why I’ve grown so attached to it.
