How can I listen to Audible on a portable player?

I’ve been a huge fan of Audible for years and love listening to audiobooks on the go. However, I’ve been struggling to figure out how to transfer my Audible audiobooks to a regular MP3 player. I know Audible has its own app, but sometimes I just want to enjoy my books doing workout without carrying my phone.

Does anyone have any tips or methods for converting Audible books to MP3 format for playback on an MP3 player? I’ve heard about some converters online, but I’m a bit overwhelmed with the options.

For now, I’ve tried ViWizard Audible Audiobook Converter, and it works great on my Mac. But, most of these converters are not free. I’d like to compare more tools before investing money on it. Thus, I am writing this for more recommendations. If you have tried good free/paid converters, please let me know. Many thanks.

Audible books are encrypted so they don’t want you to convert them

In the USA at least, Audible isn’t necessary so long as you have a library card. Libraries let you listen to audio books using an app called Libby for free. I listened to about 95% of the Jack Reacher books that way. Sometimes there’s a waiting list for the new books though. And there are some books that I found they didn’t have. https://libbyapp.com

By the way there are also some good books at Librivox.org that are in MP3 format and are free, like this one: LibriVox
