Discussion FORUM question: What has been the biggest benefit, or the biggest challenge, of using a minimalist phone?
The Kompakt has changed my life. I’m much more present and feel better. The phone is almost perfect, but it lacks some basic features (the timer app, the music app needs improvement, the GPS works very poorly and consequently so does the maps). Fortunately, the community has done a great job improving the phone’s usability, and the sideloading option allows me to have everything I need. At the same time, the Mudita Pure was truly beautiful, and perhaps a phone like that with the Kompakt’s operating system would be perfect, or a thinner version of the Kompakt with a physical button (like an old iPhone 4s, for example). Or something similar to the Light Phone 2/3, which is objectively very, very beautiful in terms of industrial design. The e-ink screen is the key. But beyond that, you have no idea how grateful I am. I hope the next phone is the definitive one.
I did the survey, was interested to see there’s going to be a new phone - will keep eyes peeled for updates. I hope though that the MK won’t be forgotten.
I forgot to mention this in my survey but a small phone size is essential. I have had the LPII, mudita kompakt and now I am using the Hibreak Pro. The Hibreak model is a little too big and I miss the smaller size that the Mudita offered. I loved the simplicity of the light phone II, but the phone is atrocious for the battery life.
Seconding this! I didn’t put it in the survey, but I love that the Kompakt is a small phone and I might hesitate to buy a device that’s a lot bigger.
Yes - a small phone is important to me too. I just love both my Zinwa Q25 and my Kompakt. I have a Hisense A9 that sits in a drawer becuase it is too large.
Small size + Eink. These are the two cornerstones upon which to build the next device.
I’d like to add one thing: there’s a guy who created a 60fps E-ink display. It looks like magic, but apparently, it’s actually possible. He’s also made it all open source, so Mudita could look into whether it might be feasible to implement it in the next device.
It would be an incredible upgrade for the Kompakt. The technology is called Modos Flow. @urszula perhaps you could pass this information to the team? I’m not sure if they’d be interested, thank you!
