Help Needed: Major SMS Issues on Mudita Kompakt (Possibly RCS Related)

Hello, like many others here, I’m trying to resolve my SMS issues, specifically not receiving texts about 50% of the time. Here’s my current (but very unrealistic) temporary fix:

  • Group chat 1: Includes 2 iPhones, 1 Android, and my MK. I only receive about 70% of the messages (I can verify this because my partner is also in the chat).
  • Group chat 2: Includes 2 iPhones and my MK. I don’t receive any group messages unless the others turn off RCS.

For context:
I’ve turned off iMessage and RCS on my old iPhone, and I’ve also gone to Google and removed RCS from my number. I contacted Verizon (my carrier), had them review my APN settings, reset my SIM, and even tried switching to eSIM.

At this point, it seems like the combination of RCS and the Mudita Kompakt is causing major compatibility issues. Like many North American users who rely heavily on SMS, I’m not sure how to fix this before my refund window closes.

I don’t use rcs/sms to know a lot about it, but I remember reading from LightPhone users that people who faced this issue deleted their existing group messages and started new ones after they disable RCS because somehow other senders devices sometimes still see you as RCS and try to send the messages.

Yeah, that’s the tough part. It’s not realistic to expect everyone in my contacts, especially in group chats, to know how or even bother to turn off RCS. Even after I disabled it and removed it from my number, people’s phones still try to send messages via RCS, and I miss them completely on the MK. Starting new chats might help, but it’s a hassle to coordinate with everyone.

I don’t think they need to turn off RCS, they just need to exit the current group and create a new one with the same contacts.

Have found the same issue. Annoying. And like you mentioned I don’t feel like asking tons of people to turn it off to text me back. Have you found any solutions to this? For me it’s the biggest downside because texting it`s a key feature phones have had since omg when and now they’re not working.

Could be related to a lack of Google Play Service. My last phone was a Pixel, used Google Messages for a while, and when I swapped the OS to Graphene (which doesn’t have Google Play Service), I started having issues with RCS.
