Does anyone know how to access the APN settings for the Mudita Kompakt? I am trying to manually enter in the APN info from AT&T in order to get the device on their network.
Like many, I purchased the NA version thinking - maybe foolishly - that it would connect to the AT&T network out of the box. It didn’t, and so I’m giving this option one more try before sadly needing to get a refund.
I want to love this device but I didn’t buy it to be a wifi only device due to poor marketing and connectivity promises. I can’t do the “SIM card in a working phone and then into the Mudita” trick as my current phone is on eSIM and I don’t own another device that uses a SIM.
Anyway, when I contacted Mudita (I needed to create another ticket as my first attempt went nowhere which was frustrating), they told me I can either try the SIM swap (which is a no go) or trying to enter in the APN information from AT&T into the phone. AT&T said they can give me the information details of the APN but neither one of us was able to find where in the settings/menus one could actually enter in such information.
I wonder since I am unable to connect to a network, this menu is not available for me? Are you using a global version of the phone - perhaps this could also be why I am not seeing that as an option.
That’s my issue, I cannot connect to any network - it’s supposed to be AT&T but they claim the device isn’t compatible with the kompakt/mudita. So I am giving this a shot except for the fact that I cannot even access the menu to input the APN. So the only thing I can connect to is the wi-fi
Yeah that menu tree is not available for me when I go into networks. I only have the option to use a SIM or if I want to switch to eSIM with regards to data. WiFi is there as well but that’s it.
So I have t used a physical SIM (new or old) because my current phone/data plan uses eSIM. When I ask AT&T for the QR code they told me it won’t work with the device. Mudita support said the only other option I have is to get the APN info from AT&T which they said they would give me but there was no place within the menu options to enter it in. So as of now, I have not been able to connect this device to data since receiving it.
How long have folks been waiting for support replies via email?
The lack of support, for me, is a deal breaker. Even if they were able to “fix” anything. I’d still warn people to stay away. All I need is a prepaid mailer sent to me and it’s taking weeks with zero communication.
I went from hype train to nightmare in a matter of days. So sad.
Thank you @urszula I did hear back and a prepaid mailer has been provided. I appreciate the efforts and wish it worked out for me as the device itself seemed excellent. But I’ll be sending the device back this Monday. Thanks again.
@ryang808 I’m glad that I was able to help. Yeah, too bad it didn’t work out for you, but I totally get it- we wouldn’t want you to keep a phone you can’t use.
Hello! Debated between creating a new thread but I wanted to link to this anyway - I’m having a similar issue.
I use Fido in Canada. I have previously had issues receiving and sending MMS by default, but changing APN settings has fixed this. I want to replicate this with my Kompakt, but going to APN settings, I can’t actually make any changes.
@urszula I get to the same menu you did in your video above, but tapping any of the settings does nothing; no keyboard prompt and even the Enable/Disable toggle doesn’t change.
What settings did you use for PureTalk? I also have their service but I don’t think my settings are correct because on my service bars, one is an exclamation point - is it like that for yours as well? I can call and text but the hot spot and anything that uses data will not work.
I understand that you’re trying to edit the APN settings on your Mudita Kompakt, which is a crucial step for getting mobile data and MMS to work correctly.
There are generally two reasons why you might be having trouble: either the ‘add’ option is a bit hidden, or your mobile operator has locked the settings on your SIM card itself. This guide will help you determine which one it is.
Part 1: How to Add a New APN on Your Mudita Kompakt
First, let’s make sure we are looking in the right place. Please follow these steps exactly to add a new APN profile:
Go to Settings: Open the main Settings menu.
Select Network & Internet: Tap on Network & Internet.
Select Mobile network: Tap on Mobile network.
Go to Advanced: Scroll down and tap on Advanced.
Select Access Point Names: Tap on Access Point Names (APNs).
Press the ‘+’ Icon: In the top right corner of the screen, you should see a + symbol. Please tap this to create a new APN profile.
Enter and Save: Fill in the details provided by your carrier and then use the three-dot menu in the corner to Save the new APN. Make sure the newly created APN is selected.
If you were able to press the + icon and add a new APN, your issue should now be resolved! If you could not find the + icon, or if all the fields were greyed out and uneditable, please continue to Part 2.
Part 2: Understanding Carrier-Locked APN Settings
The “Why”: If you followed the steps above but could not add or edit an APN, it is because your mobile operator has intentionally locked these settings at the SIM card level. This is not a fault of your Mudita Kompakt. Carriers sometimes do this for specific types of plans, such as:
Certain prepaid or MVNO plans.
Corporate or business accounts.
SIM cards intended for IoT devices.
What You Would See:** When APNs are locked, you will typically see that the fields are ‘greyed out’ and cannot be tapped, or the + icon to add a new profile is completely missing.
The Solution: Because this is a restriction set by your mobile operator, the only solution is to contact their customer support. You can explain that your device requires custom APN settings and ask if they can either unlock them or switch you to a plan that allows for APN editing.
Alternatively, the issue can be resolved by using a different SIM card from a provider that does not lock APN profiles.
We hope this guide has helped you identify the cause of the issue. To summarize, first, try adding a new APN using the steps in Part 1. If you find the settings are locked, the next step is to speak with your mobile operator. Please let us know if you have any other questions.
