Fingerprint Security Issue [Kompakt]

Today I accidentally found a significant security issue with fingerprint unlocking. i’m able to unlock the phone with different finger than set in settings (!)

Only one finger is set, but 3 fingers unlock the phone…

make sure when you register your fingerprint you’re not registering multiple fingers on a single entry. it sounds like when your registered your finger you probably touched the sensor with your other fingers during registration

no. this is not relevant

Could you delete the existing fingerprint, recreate it, and report back if this is still an issue?

will do later on

considering this is how you get a single fingerprint entry to work with multiple fingerprints, it is relevant. as the other user mentioned you should try removing the existing entry and try again

Ok, Unfortunately this is reproducible after deleting the fingerprint :frowning:

Wow, hopefully this is a one off issue with your reader. I’ve tried anything I can think of to replicate this, and my device only opened with the correct finger

Same here, device only unlocks with the fingers I’ve set up

I test it with all my fingers, it only opens with the finger I saved

Regular android has an additional feature where the phone can always be unlocked when a trusted device (e.g. smartwatch) or location (home wifi) is close by. Does the Kompakt have this feature and might you have activated it?
Just a wild guess.

My only suggestion is that you double-check that you did not disable your lock screen pin. I believe many phones will unlock your device with the fingerprint sensor regardless of what finger you use when you disable your passcode.

Fingerprint requires this passcode, if you disable it then you effectively remove your fingerprint settings as well.

Just a guess though. Hope it helps!

EDIT: nevermind, the video shows the passcode is enabled and only one fingerprint is set up. In that case my suggestions are (in order):

  • Delete finger and passcode and set up a new one
  • Check for system updates
  • Contact support
  • As a last resort, reset your device to its factory settings

  1. done, does not help
  2. 1.1.1 is the last one
  3. waiting for @urszula
  4. will hold on

If this is only me, it may suggest the faulty sensor

Urszula is not really on the support team. She seems to be the go between for support and the forum. It might be better to open a support ticket

Most likely only you I would contact support directly and ask for a new phone

Maybe you have the same fingerprint on every finger
I don’t have this issue on my Mudita. I registered 3 fingerprints and only these fingers can unlock the phone. Probably your phone is broken.

Thanks for reporting this. Although everything is fine on my end (I just tried it) and I can’t unlock the phone with any other finger other than the one that I set up.

@ovy Is there a chance that you scanned more than one finger while setting up your Kompakt?
FUN FACT: By default tere is the possibility of having 5 fingers scanned.
