Customized my Offline+ switch ;)

Ok, I’ve been having trouble with the offline+ switch accidentally switching on while going in and out of my pocket etc. and this past month it’s been accidentally switching on a LOT so I worry it might be getting easier and easier to switch. Well my phone is already SOOOO busted up anyway so today I decided to just cut off the switch with an razor blade. It’s still super easy to switch on and off if I just apply a bit of pressure on it while sliding…. but maybe it won’t catch on my pocket anymore! Think this’ll work??

(Also shout out to that red plastic hiding inside the switch, thought that was a fun little inside look)

And take this as a PSA. If you’re clumsy like me you should probably buy that screen protector

Customized? Mutilated, you probably mean. And yes, a screen protector is imperative, especially with E Ink screens, which are extra vulnerable to cracks.

Speaking of screen protectors…

At first I wasn’t too happy at all with the new screen protector with the black bezel, and the lack of communication when ordering three at my local Dutch authorizedreseller, because I really liked the way the previous model screen protector ‘carried’ a glow of the backlight until the edges, giving it just something extra ‘magic’.

By now I have replaced all of them with the new screen protector with the bezel, and completely revised my opininon, for two reasons: first, the black bezel is nearly invisible against the black background and secondly, because of the small bezel, it’s much more forgiving when you need to make adjustments. When you have to take it of and re-allign it, it shows no fingerprints, because of the black bezel. You can stick your nails.under it to carefully lift it of again (take your time, otherwise it will break) and you can grab the screen protector at all sides, without leaving fingerprints or other marks, because they’re on the backside of the bezel.

If anyone needs some easy instructions how to stick them perfectly, fingerprint and bubble free to your screen, just let me know.

Kind regards,

Marco

i sanded mine down to make it a little less likely to switch when removing from my pocket. I applied tape aroudn the edges, and slowly sanded it so it was about half the height, which made a big difference. and agree- love the pop of colour it now gives the phone.

Which type of sandpaper did you use? What grit size? I’m also keen to get rid of the annoying switch.
Do you have any photo of your mutiliation?

wet and dry paper, fine grit so you can control how much you are taking off.

Did it very gradually, cleaning it each time to check the amount gone so i didnt take it too low. just left a slight lip.

I shot mine off with a rifle, it was red inside too. Then I realized it wasn’t the offline switch I shot. And then the pain set in… :stuck_out_tongue:

No link. Just a limb. The last one left :stuck_out_tongue:

The only thread on the entire Mudita Community Forum not suitable for the faint of heart… Where’s the mute button on this forum?

And I thought dutch people have humour…

Haha, we certainly do have a (great) sense of humor, but most of the time our sense of humor is somewhat difficult to comprehend for others. When someone starts about Dutch humor, it always reminds of this video (undo mute button because visible when playing full screen).

God, that is brutal. This clearly goes too far. Where is the mute button on this forum ?? :stuck_out_tongue:

I looked at that Kompakt & gasped

You just gasped? I’m still on the respiratory ventilator in the Emergency Room…

That sounds like a much better way to do it haha. I like hearing other people had similar inclinations. I wonder if I can sand mine now to make it a little nicer than my “mutilation” lol

What you don’t think this looks much nicer than a screen protector???

But yes I learned my lesson now about e-ink
I have to say though, the phone has still been working just fine like this for many months!

There was no need to treat it like this. I could have made a wallpaper that looks almost the same

Well, it sure is … ehrm … different in an abstract sort of way.

I think maybe this is a prime example of the importance of investing in a case lol
