Custom Mudita Kompakt App- CalmDirectory

A simple e-mail client like Proton Mail (or allowing the use of it without paid Bridge) would be amazing!

I wouldn’t call Protonmail simple. I was referring to it in terms of encryption. But as far as the UI is concerned, I’m sure @davidray has something much simpler in mind, and rightfully so.

I changed my mind. I wouldn’t want to arrive at the other end in black and white :stuck_out_tongue:

I’m tracking app usage with HERE metrics for the current API key so I can estimate the costs I would accrue with Google Places API. If it looks manageable (ideally free), I’ll add my key to the build and let users choose it without entering their own. I should have a definitive answer in about a week.

I havent used the CalmDirectory app in a while, but some days ago I tried it again. Finding the places works fine, but when I click on the card symbol to move to the Mudita Maps app, the maps app crashes and cannot open the location. Any idea whats happening? Its happening everytime and a restart did not help.

let me know if you get a workaround

@hanswilli @devamjaglan This is because the default maps app does not allow deep linking at the moment. If you have another maps app installed (Waze, Google maps, HERE Maps, etc…) it will ask you which one you want to use and then open in that app.

With that said, I’m actually VERY close to launching an update to the Directory app with turn-by-turn navigation built in. Here are some screenshots (click the screenshot to view the entire post on Imgur):

This looks incredible @davidray - so much better than the stock maps app (and the common alternatives).

Out of interest, does it allow for cycle navigation too?

It does! The UI/UX has changed a little bit around the “Get Directions” screen. I’ll try to get some updated screenshots soon. It offers “driving”, “cycling”, and “walking” routes.

What does this use as its database? Is this OSM, or does it use Google/HERE like in the current CalmDirectory settings?

I use Mapbox for the turn-by-turn navigation. They had the most reliable, cost effective, navigation from my testing. The rest of the Directory will remain the same; HERE/Google.

That’s awesome!
can we get to know a around when the update gets released?

Thank you so much for creating this and making it so we don’t have to share our location info. Privacy is one of the main reasons I chose the Kompakt and it has been amazing seeing the applications folks like you have come up with.

I’m currently onboarding at a new company/job so I’m a bit busier at the moment. When the dust settles, hopefully in the next week, I will make a few final changes and push the update. I’d say probably no later than end of month but hopefully sooner.

On a side note, I used Directory to navigate about 3 hours away into a decent size city (Little Rock, AR) and it was directly on par with Google Maps on my Pixel which I had running simultaneously. It also used 1 bar of battery throughout the entire trip.

I need to tweak the UI to make lane suggestions more visible and then need to add the ability to mute the voice. Other than that, everything was pretty solid in my testing.

I’ll update here when I have it ready to go!
