@davidray make time for yourself, too.

I just installed the CalmDirectory app, but am having difficulty with location settings. See attached.

I want to use the device’s location and HERE Maps. Do I need to enable any other settings? I appreciate your help!

Do you have location sharing off ?

I have “Use your current location” in main settings enabled, showing Weather and Maps only.

Hmmm, I guess Directory should be there too, but that’s something David can answer.

Thanks! I restarted the device hoping that would address the issue, but it didn’t.

Might it have to do anything with the newest update? I’m still on 1.3

I doubt it, but better ask @davidray

You should not have to do anything other than share location. If you go search, does it ask you to allow location?

Thanks for getting back to me. It only asked me to allow location access during the initial setup. Now it continues to “fetch the location” as in the screenshot I sent earlier. When I type search keywords like “museum” or “coffee,” nothing shows up. I installed version 0.3.1 via Mudita Center.

Okay, I’m digging into it now.

I have pondered this as well. I’ve never had to put the app in this before and I’ve used device location. I think moving to HERE may have broken this particular feature if you didn’t already share your location.

I wonder if Mudita has an api to have your app show in this list or if only first party apps have access right now.

It would suck if it only works with Google.

I was able to replicate this issue with a fresh install. I’m debugging it now.

@zyny I’m also seeing my location broken in Maps and Weather even while sharing my GPS. Are you seeing the same?

Yes, just checked Weather and Maps apps - GPS unavailable: Check GPS is switched on and that you have a clear line of sight to the sky.

Location services were available for those apps - just used them yesterday (before installing your CalmDirectory), and they worked just fine off wifi.

I just published a new release that has a few fallbacks for location gathering. This seems to be working on my device. It’s returning my last known location which was on the highway on my way to work. I’m guessing your GPS is inaccessible right now so this should help. Can you try it and verify for me?

  • tries GPS
  • falls back to last known location
  • falls back to default location if set

Thanks for addressing this so quickly! I deleted v 0.3.1 and wanted to check Maps and Weather before installing v 0.3.2 (I deleted the app via the inkOS App Drawer). I restarted MK. Without CalmDirectory installed, Maps and Weather apps are still not working as they should.

The Weather app keeps loading data, and Maps keeps showing the GPS error message. Note that Maps worked just fine over wifi yesterday.

Do I need to do anything else to get the Maps and Weather apps working properly? I want to make sure everything is in order before installing the CD update.

This “issue” is independent of the Directory app. The Kompakt is a “de-googled” device meaning it does not rely on Google Play Services and all of the location utilities that come along with those. Because of this, the phone uses a more “pure” form of getting location via GPS. If your phone does not have line of site access for a long period of time (hours in your house, at the office or school, etc…) it will lose the GPS location. Because of that, your maps and weather (and any other location based app) will not have a valid location to show.

In my update, I fall back to get your last known location which may not be completely accurate but should get close until GPS reconnects or you manually set your default location.
