Comparison: Light Phone 3 vs Mudita Kompakt

I am honestly not sure about this now, I understand we should be given the option to make the phone what we want, but part of me now when I see these videos turning dumbphones into smartphones, I am conflicted. With the LP3 screen not being e-ink like the Kompakt I feel like you can turn the lp3 into an addictive phone, which is the complete opposite of why the LP3 was created in the first place, at least with the Kompakt the screen is e-ink so the performance of any addictive apps will be such a bad experience it will deter people to becoming addicted. But with the LP3 and its amoled screen you are giving people instructions on how to turn it into an addictive device.

I get that people should have choice but I honestly don’t like seeing all these videos being put up showing how to turn the LP3 into a smartphone, a guy on reddit had the LP3 playing star wars, I don’t know just did not like seeing that lol

I know as a long time user of the Light phone 2 this does bother me, this phone is suppose to be a minimalist phone , it is in all their advertising yet it seems within a few easy steps you can turn the LP3 back into a dopamine hit machine

I have decided even for my Kompakt I am not going to sideload anything, I want to use the phone the way it was intended, seeing all these posts on reddit about the LP3 and sideloading and on you tube have really turned me off, the point of these phones for many people with severe addictions is to not be able to download addictive apps, watch porn etc, and giving people instructions on how to do that is going to bring a lot of people with phone addiction back to those addictive habits.

I completely agree. I resisted getting a smartphone until 2018 and now seven years later I fully acknowledge that it has become a problem for me and I am looking for a device that won’t let my bad habits take over again. I know everyone has different needs with their devices so I don’t judge any of this stuff, but for my needs it has to be something that exclusively gives me the utility of communication and navigation and locks me out of the slippery slope of addictive algorithms. The new Lightphone is simply not an option, which leaves me deciding between the Kompakt and Sunbeam F1 Horizon.

My everyday cellphone for nearly three years has been the Sunbeam Wireless F1 Orchid (now discontinued), and I look forward to replacing it with the Mudita Kompakt, primarily for the usability in bright sunlight. (I must admit that I will miss the superb – and anonymized – speech-to-text functionality with Sunbeam’s Premium Service.) I plan to try sideloading DAVx5 for regular synchronization of my contacts and calendar on the Kompakt with my Nextcloud instance, which also keeps my computers’ contacts and calendar up-to-date. I am vacillating on sideloading anything else. I plan otherwise to use initially the Kompakt “almost as-is” for several days or weeks.

Thank you for the recommendation of DAVx5. I see that it is compatible with iCloud accounts, which is important for me until I step away from Apple.

Unfortunately the video is no longer available. My concern with sideloading on LightPhone3 is that LP3 only has a battery of 1800 mAh + OLED screen. If you add apps like whatsapp & signal etc (and that OLED screen) then the batty will barely last a day.

Thanks. It was a tough one for me tbh. A part of me was conflicted, but I know it’s the right choice because it doesn’t support my mission of helping people reduce their usage.
