Hi
Maybe I am missing something but I can’t find a way to change the wifi DNS.
Is there a way to do it?
When I go to wifi and select the one connected can’t find any option to do this.
On your Mudita Kompakt?
YES ! in the Kompakt ![]()
I have an Iphone mini and usually change it so I can put adguard DNS and block advertizing.
For example I’m using an apk in the Kompakt to check Stocks and has advertizing in it, but with adguard DNS it dissapears.
@callb Thanks for the clarification.
To maintain the minimalist, streamlined environment of MuditaOS K, we intentionally hid advanced network settings, including manual DNS configuration, from the main menus. However, there are still a couple of effective ways to use a custom DNS.
- Configure DNS on your Home Router (Recommended)
If your primary goal is to use a specific DNS (such as a privacy-focused or ad-blocking DNS) while connected to your home network, the most seamless method is to change the DNS settings directly on your Wi-Fi router.
- By logging into your router’s administrative web panel, you can set your preferred DNS at the network source.
- This automatically routes your Kompakt’s Wi-Fi traffic (along with any other device in your home) through your chosen DNS, completely bypassing the need for local device settings or third-party VPN workarounds.
- Using ADB (For Advanced Users)
If you need a system-wide custom DNS that also applies to your cellular data when you leave the house, it is technically possible to configure Android’s built-in “Private DNS” feature using ADB (Android Debug Bridge) via a computer.
- This is an advanced, developer-level method that requires enabling USB Debugging and sending command-line instructions from a PC to the phone.
- While we do not officially provide or support the specific command scripts for this modification, users who are already comfortable with standard Android ADB architecture can manually push a private DNS hostname to the device’s global settings.
I thought It would probably be something intentionally.
I will try to Configure DNS on your Home Router.
Thanks !
I’m sorry but you guys can’t praise yourself about privacy and at the same time use the minimalist card whenever it’s convenient for you.
I think we can
Sometimes you just gotta be your own SUNSHINE ![]()
(But you don’t have to be sorry if you feel differently, I’m certainly not)
Privacy and minimalism are not interchangeable buzzwords for us, and we don’t use one to excuse the other.
MuditaOS K is designed around intentional choice & the reduction of unnecessary complexity. As you know, not everyone is an advanced user & an expert, so we try to make things as simple as possible on the device itself. After all, it’s a MUDITA design.
And that’s what makes it so great, that intentional restraint is very much the point.
Advanced network settings like manual DNS are not hidden for data collection reasons, nor to limit user control, but to prevent accidental misconfiguration and to keep the core experience stable and understandable for the majority of users.
Privacy at Mudita is addressed at the system and architectural level, through hardware choices, software design, data minimization, and transparency. It’s not measured by how many advanced toggles are surfaced in the main menu.
You’re free to disagree with our approach. Just please do so based on how the system actually works, not on assumptions about why it exists.
You can do whatever you want, I’m not here to stop you. Just it is definitely not genuine.
It’s not the first time, anytime a broken or a hidden feature was asked you guys use the same excuses. It’s more acceptable to say “We didn’t think people will need this” than to play the minimalist card.
I never implied that you removed the custom DNS feature to collect data. What i’m saying is that you guys cared about privacy you wouldn’t have hidden it.
Because u can still want a minimalist experience and still not want to be tracked on the internet (not just by you, but from anyone). And custom DNS is one of the ways u can do that, and it’s not something that only advanced users want or need.
And please don’t make talk to me about privacy, you guys don’t give 2 damns about privacy or security for that matter. And no “marketing buzzwords” will change my mind.
It’s been months since I’ve raised concerns, and shared what was asked from me and I have seen zero replies from you, Lukasz or Karol even though I tagged you on the Spam topic here, I sent the required email to Karol in November, and contacted Lukasz both on Email and here in DMs.
Do I need to talk about the other breaches I accidentally caused last April?
I’m going to stop you right there @gezimos. Your comment is out of line & attacking us here is really not appropriate. At this point, the conversation is no longer productive & it’s reached a topic where this is no longer about DNS. (which was the original question from the author of this post.
We’ve explained the reasoning behind the current design decision regarding DNS and how privacy is addressed within MuditaOS K. You may disagree with that approach, and that’s noted.
However, broad claims that Mudita “doesn’t care about privacy or security,” or references to unspecified “breaches,” are serious allegations and not something we will litigate in a forum thread.
If you believe there are unresolved security issues or past incidents that require follow-up, the appropriate path is to raise them through our official security or support channels, where they can be reviewed properly by the relevant teams.
This thread will not move forward constructively from here, so I am locking it down.
