I am using signal messenger or a fork of signal called Molly, but I had the same issue on signal that Im experiencing on Molly. That is if I try to take a picture directly from the app and attach it to a message the camera app hangs and the messaging app crashes and has to be restarted.
I can take the picture with the camera app and attach it to a message and it works without issue. I wondered if any of
you had experienced any similar problems
@sundancermartin did you give the app permission to use the camera?
I believe so, where would I I check that
ok I just checked in system –> developer options –> privacy molly does have access to the camera.
I forgot to mention, the screen is completly blank / black for about 3 seconds. then the camera screen appears for a couple of seconds and the the error message appears sayin it needs to be closed.
@sundancermartin I have noticed this behavior with Signal, Molly, and other applications that use camera. These camera all expect a front-facing camera, and about 50% of the time I am able to “swap” the camera in the app using an icon like this:
Mudita won’t open the source of OS K so it’s difficult to investigate, but I suspect that these applications are calling on a CameraIdentifier that doesn’t correspond to an actual camera device. I like that MK designers omitted a front-facing camera hardware, but it appears that OS K can not appropriately respond to application requests for this non-existent camera.
I’m also having this issue with every camera app but the official one. With the Open Source “Camera”, I need to switch between front/rear two times before the camera is enabled. Molly never worked at all. In fact, even the official Mudita camera is often unable to access the camera and I need to restart it. (I had to switch offline+ mode on/off to enable camera but it seems it was improved with 1.5 update)
I have found the best work around is take the picture with whatever camera app you are using and then attach the picture from the gallery into your chosen messaging app, bit clumsy but it works well.
Obviously no good for video call etc, but I don’t tend to this on the Kompakt
Molly was ok for me, except the camera issue. I eventually solved it by repeatedly trying to access the rear camera before the app crashed, which I eventually did. Once switched the rear camera was set as the default it held the setting.
The problem with Molly for me was I couldn’t get secondary devices to work with the main account being on the Kompakt. signal made multiple devices on the same account very easy so I went back to using it
I just want to clarify : Molly is working perfectly for me but “the camera in Molly never worked at all”. Not Molly fault, definitely Mudita.
ok not sure how I managed to get the camera working then, I must have got lucky. Molly is a great app, I would have kept it but I wanted to use the same account on the pc and couldn’t get it to work in sync with the phone.
