Four months ago during May, it felt like waaaaayyyyy too long time to wait, but happily it’s only few more days of waiting before the campaign-launch.

Not a nine years, phew.

Privacy-Phone Competitor to Launch Soon

@urszula et al.: I thought that you would appreciate seeing this announcement by Rob Braxman at Brax.Me about his next de-Googled smartphone – the BraX3. As with his earlier models, it focuses on privacy but does NOT use E Ink.

Announcement: In October, we are going to launch a pre-order program here on Brax.Me for the BraX3 though the pre-order will occur on a separate site. This will be an exciting period! If you do a pre-order we expect to ship probably for arrival in early January.
I will be showing the phone model demo unit shortly and it will not be the final look, however, it will be close. The phone will be shipped with a very simple BraxOS with very few apps. And then a store will be available to add apps as you wish. I will have the final version of the phone in 4-6 weeks.
The phone as mentioned earlier is a 5G capable phone with SIM/eSIM, headphone jack and very capable specs. Dual SIM slot. The design is more like an iPhone look. It will be a lot sturdier than the BraX2.
I’m guessing this will all be ready by mid-October for ordering.
This is the current plan right now: a Pre-Order price of [US]$279 will include a hard case. Plus shipping. Incredible pricing.
This will be offered by a new company called Brax Technologies Inc.
The phone will be available later in other channels, and Kickstarter but the one in the pre-order will be a great deal with the hardcase. That would be a separate purchase after the pre-order period.
This phone has pre-approved IMEI’s by GSM and is compatible for T[-]Mobile and AT&T and their MVNO’s. It will also work Internationally.

Currently we are testing using AOSP Android 14 but a quick upgrade to Android 15 will happen possibly by release.

Yay! I cannot tell you how grateful I am to hear that!
Out of interest, can you share what was Mudita’s reasoning behind not including 5G?

Two Mystery Features

image

I am guessing that one is a proximity sensor. I am hoping that neither is a selfie camera.

Perhaps one is a sensor to see if you’ve cleaned the inside of your ears that morning, and the phone will only work if they are suitably clean LOL!

lol if they are I am done with Mudita

I’m here with the info  No need to panic. that’s not a front-facing camera  Yes, there is a speaker.
Here are the details: From Left to right: status LED, light/proximity sensor, speaker

Does the status LED flash upon a notification?

If its not too late, please make Stereo Speaker. Mono ones (like I assume in Pure) are barely usable for music. Gladly bluetooth and audio jacks save the day

Hi all, long time forum reader here with first post. Firstly, I want to tell you that I LOVE muditas vision and how you interact with the community

I understand that Mudita Kompakt will be a minimalist smartphone with access to maps + banking apps. The new Mudita Pure 2 will be a minimalist dumbphone, for all those who only want the absolute basics. Both will be integrated into the Mudita ecosystem. If the Kompakt was not a smart phone, they clearly wouldnt employ a whole armada of android developers to work on this + integrate NFC + GPS / GLONASS into the phone.

Idea for the Kompakt:

  • App control: The idea comes from the whole browser discussion: I understand both sides who want (practical use) OR do not want (addicition, distraction, etc.) a browser. I would like to emphasize that browsing on eink is already far less distracting and addictive by default. In any case, why wouldnt Mudita consider to have a browser as a default that (or only website categories) can be deactivated ONCE for ever. If you would like to have the browser (or website categories) again, you would need to reset the phone back to factory mode (or be only allowed to reactivate once a month). This will be a major hurdle to just fall back into distractive behavior. Those who wouldnt want to use a browser would only have to exercise their willpower ONCE when setting up the phone. Same logic can be applied to other distracting apps and websites.

Hi there! @poetrybear Welcome to the Mudita Forum, and thank you so much for taking the time to share your thoughts with us. it’s always wonderful to see long-time readers join the conversation!

We truly appreciate your support and enthusiasm for Mudita’s vision and community approach. It really means a lot to us. Your thoughtful feedback and ideas about app control for Mudita Kompakt are very insightful. We love hearing from our community and getting a better understanding of what resonates with you.

The idea of having control over potentially distracting features in a way that supports mindful use is definitely something to think about. The approach you suggested, where features like a browser could be disabled permanently or reactivated only with a significant reset, reflects a deep understanding of how technology can influence habits.

Thank you again for being part of this community and contributing such valuable feedback. Feel free to continue sharing your thoughts, as we’re always eager to hear more ideas from passionate members like yourself!

Are PDF and eBook / Comic CBR readers included? This is real use of a bigger e-ink screen and good for eyes

That is a fine idea! I’m all for this, takes the convenience out of it for those of us not wishing to have a browser
