@kirkmahoneyphd I think all competitors lurk and follow each other. Perhaps not overtly, but someone from their team is definitely keeping tabs on what the other companies are doing.
Most of the SEO platforms also have features that scan what your competition is doing & they try to ride the coattails 
by suggesting topics that preform well. Also…google trends is a goldmine
