Blocking spam calls with Mudita?

Unfortunately the settings specify CALLS ONLY & they do not block text messages (SMS).
I did ask the team if this is something that they are considering.

This makes Mudita look really sad. Sorry
But why don’t even 3rd party blockers work on the Kompakt ?

I’ve asked my team for help looking into this because I’m at a loss as to what could be happening that they are not working for you. It’s so odd because the spam call features that Mudita Kompakt has work for me. I tested them and when have them turned on they work as they should.

If I call my Kompakt from a blocked/unknown number, I will hear a message in POLISH that “the number you’re trying to reach is unavailable”
If I call my Kompakt for a number that’s NOT private (visible) but NOT in my contact list, I get the same message.

I mainly get spam SMS though. Did you test those too ?

This question was also related to spam SMS.

This is still something that I am having some issues with & our team is helping me sort it out.

@YYZ I confirmed with the team that these call blocking are supposed to only work on CALLS, not text messages.
However, from what I understand, they DO NOT WORK for you on CALLS either? Even when both features are activated? So, for example, if you have this feature activated, random numbers will still get through, even though they are NOT on your contact list? Am I understanding this correctly?

So how many more times do I need to explain it ? I’ve been having this issue since I bought the phone in summer/autumn last year and reported it several times since then, and yet NOTHING has been done to fix it, plus I keep being asked about the same issue over and over again.

  1. The fact that the Kompakt is not able to block SMS is already disappointing, to put it mildly.
  2. I never had the phone turned on when these spam calls were made, but:
  3. I keep getting spam SMS despite of native blocking turned on AND additionally using Spam Blocker (from F-Droid) with “strict” settings to block calls AND messages. Some of these spam SMS I receive come from my provider, telling me that I had a call in absence (from unknown numbers AND blocked numbers alike).

So basically EVERYTHING gets through.
And yet my previous question is still unanswered: Why do 3rd party blockers not work on the Kompakt ?

We want unrecognised numbers be able to get through, but not numbers known publicly as spam callers. There are apps @YYZ refers to that facilitate such safety without becoming unreachable to anyone you just handed your business card to.

In my case it’s different, I didn’t hand anything to anyone. It’s a brand new SIM card, nobody knows (or rather: should know) this number. Maybe it’s a recycled SIM card and the previous owner is being targetted. At any rate, all this spam needs to be blocked. If Mudita doesn’t offer a way to block it, then a 3rd party blocker should do the job. Yet none of it works.

Our team just tested this app & here’s their feedback:

From what we’ve tested, this app has worked for them. They’ve tested that it blocks numbers that we’ve added to the blacklist, and I am waiting to hear about the rest of the features. I’m sorry that you’re having these issues, and we’re doing our best to reproduce these bugs from our end and it’s just taking some time.
Text message SMS blocking was never an intended part of these features- they are just for calls.

@urszula: When you say “these” features, are you referring to “Kompakt’s” features?

I have tried both apps, but like the original poster said, none of them work:

Besides, if I have to add each number to a blacklist first, it’s missing the point. The blocker should make sure, that ANY NUMBER THAT IS NOT ON MY CONTACT LIST (!!!) doesn’t even come through, so I DON’T have to add any number to a blacklist.
Otherwise I will never be able to use this phone, because I’d just sit there, waiting for spam to come in, only to add it to the blacklist. If that is the future of this phone, then it’s no surprise that more and more people are selling it.

Note that it stops working if phone is locked and both YACB/Phone app are not in the Duraspeed config.

Yes. These KOMPAKT features on the device are for CALLS ONLY- and they specify that function in each feature.

Our team (and I) have been testing this for sometime now & they do work as they are intended to work for calls- but not text messages (but they are not meant to work on text messages).

This are the settings that one of our team members has set on the third party app & he replied that for him it works.
I also just spoke to our Head of Hardware & he suggested that perhaps this could be provider issue.

“Perhaps” it could be anything
I’m not going to start provider-hopping now. Either blocking works or it doesn’t. I am not willing to invest anymore effort or money in a product that simply doesn’t do what even 40 Euro phones can do.

@YYZ: I had for a couple of months last summer a Kompakt running MuditaOS K v1.2, and you are reminding me that I wasted a lot of time ADDING incoming-text-message cellphone numbers to a blacklist. After I sold my Kompakt, I got a different AOSP-based cellphone, which, out of the box, lets me allow incoming calls from contacts only and lets me allow incoming text messages from contacts only:

With these two settings enabled:

  • Calls from non-contacts never ring my cellphone but do let the caller leave a voicemail message and do leave a “[Blocked]” entry in the cellphone’s Call Log:
  • I never get text messages from non-contacts!

I hope that Kompakt eventually will support blocking of non-contact text messages. Until then, I cannot justify getting the Kompakt again.

Please, by all means, tell me which phone you got :stuck_out_tongue:

I earlier had a now-discontinued F1 Orchid, and it had these contacts-only features, too. I believe that ALL of Sunbeam’s cellphones (in the original F1 series, and now in the F1 Horizon series and F1 Pro series) had/have these features.

Note: Sunbeam’s cellphones work only in the USA and Canada.

Great, I’m in Europe
I’m just not lucky with this phone. Literally anything that could go wrong did go wrong. I’m surprised it has a screen lol
