Hello,
I’m starting to realize that Yet Another Call Blocker is not working on my Mudita. Spam calls ring even when the number is in the blacklist. I’ve also tried SpamBlocker but it doesn’t even manage to display the call logs.
Another strange thing: statistics of YACB are not updatet about the number of calls blocked.
In fact, the only feature I need is to be able to block range of phone numbers, such as +322888* becaus, in my country, spammers change number evenry single days but, with time, you start to see patterns.
I’ve been having this issue from the start. Neither the Mudita settings (block unknown numbers, block hidden numbers), nor any of the 3rd party blockers you mentioned stop the spam. I still keep getting spam SMS from numbers that are clearly NOT on my contacts list.
@ploum Our team suspects that the reason is this third party app which absolutely took over the responsibility of blocking calls BUT it doesn’t work because Duraspeed (our battery optimizer) is probably turning this third-party app off. Before you installed this app, did the native features NOT work like you wanted them to?
That would be quite helpful. 99% of the spam calls I get are from randomly changing numbers that begin with a 765 area code. I wish I could set my Kompakt to block unrecognized numbers that specifically begin with that area code but not block all unrecognized numbers.
Today when I switched on the Kompakt, I had 2 more spam SMS. This is really annoying. The Kompakt’s blocker doesn’t work, third party blockers don’t work (even though I did set Duraspeed to let them run in the background), and the combination of both also doesn’t work. So WHAT will stop the spam ? Mindful use of the Kompakt isn’t possible when spam has all the attention all the time. So after several months, I still have to keep the phone turned off most of the time, because I don’t want to be bothered with spam calls and SMS on a daily basis.
In the last few weeks I started getting SCAM calls (“sir someone tried to take a loan in your name”) from different numbers, one being a number of a legitimate company in liquidation, one from a number that’s not even searchable in those spam call databases - probably a one off clout. I’m not that mad, I managed to consume 45 minutes of their time, trying to see where’s the trick and hoping they won’t call anyone susceptible during that time.
I can’t block unknown numbers because recently I got into new circles where there is many people that may call me and I didn’t save their numbers yet, and I became open to them sharing my number to other people of common interest.
That being said, I’ll probably have to keep this phone number in a drawer and gradually make all my relatives to migrate to a new phone number… after 20 years. And I’ll teach my kids - never provide your legitimate number for online shopping, registration, online garage sales etc.
I can block unknown numbers, and I did. And yet I keep getting spam/scam from them. And all this by using a brand new SIM card. But the point is not the amount of spam that comes in, because there are more and more crooked people and organisations in the world, sadly. The point is WHEN Mudita will implement a spam blocker that WORKS. The weird part is that even the best 3rd party blockers can’t block spam on the Kompakt. How to explain that ?
@buiosu & @YYZ I’ve asked our team to help me figure this one out because, as I said before, I’ve tried it & they work for me- so I’m not sure what could be happening in your cases.
When I turn on the native features that we have, unknown numbers & numbers not saved in my contacts DO NOT GET THROUGH. So, for me, it works like it should. @buiosu Did the features work & now they don’t (all of a sudden)?
Both @YYZ and I would appreciate spam blocking. Only spam as we have to receive some unknown numbers (say, like a small business owner).
My case is probably worse because “bank” scammers are spoofing legit phone numbers or numbers totally unknown to the spamcaller database - so any spam blocking won’t help. For those I think we need to ask the UK if their Daisy bot* is available as an app.
* - it redirects a scammer to an AI bot talking with them like an old person and wasting their time on the callfor as long as possible
I think that’s not the problem (although I can’t find the setting anymore).
I think that there are two potentially linked problem:
The native “blocking number” feature seems to be ineffective (You block a number but it is still able to call you)
3rd party blocking is also ineffective (if an app like YACB decide to block a number, it can still calls you)
It is possible that both are the same bug (block not really effective). It might also be unrelated issues.
This add the question: why use a 3rd party blocking app? Answer is straightforward: because most people want to block range of numbers, not just a number alone. Blocking app may also provide crowdsourced blocking lists.
I’m investigating and it seems that adding both YABC and the Phone app to duraspeed may improve the situation. I need to confirm it because I receive less spam those days (or I’m mostly in Offline+ mode).
“Less spam” is still too much. A spam BLOCKER should simply BLOCK all spam. Because why can a cheap 40 Euro dumbphone block spam, while a 400+ Euro phone like the Kompakt can’t ? I NEVER get any spam on the dumbphone. The few times I did (about 10 years ago), I simply blocked those numbers, and there hasn’t been any spam whatsoever since then. So I buy a phone that costs more than 10 times as much, only to constantly receive calls I don’t want ? Where is the “mindfulness” in that ?
That’s more likely the actual reason why you don’t get spam
Yesterday when I turned on the Kompakt I had yet another spam SMS, saying I had a call while absent, but from a number I already blocked days ago! And what’s even weirder, the SMS was disguised as coming from the number “333”. Only in the message text itself it revealed the original number.
Now I have both the native phone app AND spam blocker added in DuraSpeed so both can run in the background, with spam blocker set to “strict” for calls AND sms, and yet the spam still keeps coming through on a daily basis. This is frustrating. I’m seriously considering selling the Kompakt now as well, it just causes problems all the time.
