To all US Kompakt types w/ the NA model. I am currently using Mint Mobile and have been super happy overall. Traveling to and from Europe. Roaming. Texting. No issues whatsoever.
My fear is that Mint, on the back of T-Mo, is going to start phasing out 4G. I know, they say it is quite a ways away but apparently it started in January and will be severely deprecated in the next two years.
So, what MVNO are you using? How has it gone? Have you gone internationally? Any issues? Would love to hear back from the community as I am sure there are people on a variety of plans - I am most interested in US mobile at this time but maybe there is better? Some unknown?
The Kompakt phone supports VoLTE (Voice over LTE), only phones that do not support VoLTE or 5G will be impacted.
Mint Mobile (via the T-Mobile network) is not entirely phasing out 4G LTE, but it is upgrading its network, which will impact some older devices. On April 1, 2026, T-Mobile is retiring an older network security standard, which may cause devices introduced in 2017 or earlier to have limited functionality.
4G Future: While 5G is the priority, 4G LTE will likely coexist and continue to be available to some extent for several more years, with some projections suggesting it will remain until 2030 or later.
I currently use 2 different MVNOs, because one currently is not working with MMS!
ORIGINAL - Visible on Verizon’s network - currently cannot use, as MMS cannot be received since v1.4. My much preferred network, as I get service out where I live. However, with MMS not working, I cannot use. SIM goes back into my old iPhone, which can receive MMS just fine. Fix v1.4 please, I still need to use my phone as a phone!
CURRENT - Tello on T-Mobile’s network - with users saying T-Mobile was the most Mudita-friendly, I opted to try them for a month. MMS works fine, however I have very little to non-existent service at my house, and I do not get service unless I drive 5 miles out. Using out and about closer to civilization, it works just fine and have had no issues. Would have loved to stick with this as MMS works, however I still need to make calls and receive texts.
My experience (as a Californian) AT&T has better straight-forward customer support than Verizon, especially when using their websites. Verizon has better cellular coverage in remote areas. Both are costly… you get what you pay for, better technology.
Mint Mobile c/o T-Mobile - is cheap/inexpensive and last time I was issued phone number for a person who is in prison and didn’t inform their family and friends that they gave up the right to the phone number, so I got some interesting calls and texts… I had to get a new number.
T-Mobile coverage in remote areas isn’t always available but they are starting to offer T-Satellite to address that.
Doing some research, US Mobile is highly rated (value, customer support, data, reception) and has a plan that goes of the AT&T network AND allows you to add another network as backup/alternate? I am thinking Warp Plan on US Mobile might be my next destination although I’ve been pretty happy on Mint. So who knows, stay on Mint riding T-Mo until they shut down 80% of their 4G bands. By then, the Kompakt 2 will have 5G?
Again, US Mobile seems to be the MVNO leader of the pack - lots of flex.
Yes, apparently Kompakt has the capability for texting and probably some apps will work, but presently there is limited satellite service area and function… service will improve as more capable satellites are put in orbit.
I just switched from a Verizon MVNO to US Mobile’s Light Speed (T-Mobile) plan. It’s been working great on my Kompakt. No issues whatsoever. Getting all of my texts/group texts just fine. I like that I can switch to other plans as well with US Mobile, especially when traveling. I went with Light Speed as I have read that it works best with the majority of dumbphones.
Also in case folks weren’t aware the other two plans are Dark Star (AT&T) and Warp (Verizon).
