A post of gratitude :)

I understand that a primary purpose for forums is to voice questions an concerns. But I feel I haven’t seen enough appreciation for the Kompakt. Albeit, I’ve only gotten to use it for 24 hours, there are some things to get use to, but overall I LOVE IT!

I know the music player is a big problem for many, but I sideloaded spotify and have been able to use it at the gym for podcasts, audio books, and all my music. Also in relation to the gym: I always take a 60 second break in between sets. And since the kompakt doesn’t have an adequate feature for that, I went to my local sports store and bought a stopwatch. I don’t know what it is, but I enjoy it so much more than using my iphone. Just shows that sometimes a lacking component can be a positive.

I’ve already talked with multiple people on the phone and have had no issues at all. The screen is fantastic, and has no strains on the eyes. Especially with the brightness all the way lowered, it feels like I’m using a certain e-reader owned by a certain multinational tech company. The biggest issue I would say is texting, since the buttons are so small it’s easy to hit the wrong one. And with no autocorrect, it’s easy to have a message filled with typos. I think a text to speech, autocorrect, or a horizontal feature would fix that easily though.

I know the Mudita team has been extremely active in this forum, listening to input and critiques. I know they will take that feedback and fix the tedious concerns the kompakt does have. But as I said, I’m loving the Kompakt. I feel no draw to my phone whenever there’s a lull in the converstation. It forces me to be more attentive and aware of what’s around me. Again, it’s only been 24 hours, so I could switch up later this week if we’re speaking truthfully. But as of now, I wanted to say thank you!

I agree. For the keyboard…sideload Futo or Gboard. Gboard is necessary when you want to work with text to speech for most non English languages.

Oh my gosh thank you! Does Gboard work? I always see things about google programs not being transferable to Mudita

Yes it works perfectly. Apps that need Google Services do not work. You sideload Gboard and then set it as your standard keyboard and you’re set.

Yes, gratitude!
Personally I’m loving the Kompakt! For me the eink screen and offline+ switch are the big selling points. The size is perfect (smaller than my Pixel 4a!). I’ve sideloaded a few things I like–perfect!
It’s just going to get better too

I feel the same way, for my needs it a perfect phone. I have the case but I like the phone without the case, I actually don’t like the feel of the case, it is slippery, this pebble grey version has nice grip, I have a screen protector on it thats enough for me. I will use the case when I go hiking though!

I just went out with the Kompakt and even though its new, it did not feel like a new and shiny toy I needed to pick up all the time (the light phone 3 if I had kept my order I know I would have kept picking up . I am very happy Mudita stuck with e-ink, it is a slower better life. I love the texting experience no complaints , it teaches me patience. For my use case this phone checks off all the boxes, I am not one for long reviews so thats my review of the kompakt, 10/10 for me!

I just want to say the fit and finish of this device is on a level I would expect of a premium, expensive handset. I LOVE the ergonomics and tactile experience. Also, the work of the designers and engineers in making the display quite readable even in low light without using the backlight is much appreciated!

I will add that the silicone case fits extremely well around the Kompakt, gives me a sense of comfort with respect to protection from accidental drops, and helps to ensure that my Kompakt will stay where I put it – either in a pocket or on a table or desk. Well done, Mudita!

Yup the case I have decided to keep on may as well protect it from drops

Update I have a love hate relationship with this case, there are types where I am typing on the phone and the case just gives it that extra bulk I do not like, once I get home I take the case off, I just like it so much better without the case on

@matfronk Welcome to the Mudita Forum! We’re so glad you’re here:

First & foremost- thank you so much for sharing your experience! It’s really refreshing to see such a thoughtful and balanced reflection (especially after just 24 hours of use). You’re absolutely right that forums are often filled with concerns (which are valid and helpful!), but posts like yours are a great reminder of the why behind devices like Mudita Kompakt.

Now- the part about the stopwatch- you know, it’s interesting how a missing feature can nudge us into using the world around us in more intentional ways.

We hear you on the keyboard and texting- our team is aware of all of this  and feedback like yours really helps us keep refining things. We’re grateful for your openness, your patience, and most of all, your enthusiasm. It means the world to the team- I pass on all the messages.

Looking forward to hearing more of your thoughts as you continue using Mudita Kompakt!

Yeah I feel the same way, but the case is so snug on the phone, that it is a struggle sometimes to take it off.

Hell yeah about the stop watch! I say minimalist phones are about using the phone as little as possible, I have seen this forgotten on here, but isn’t it nice to have something that does something and does it well? My first switch was to a flip phone in 2015, and I had to buy many things, an alarm clock, music player, watch, etc. Practically all of these things I’m still using today 11 years later.

There’s the tactile feeling, movement in space, alteration of movement of your body. You’re not spending as much time making the same gestures with the same device to do everything in your life. It’s good for your hands, and your mind.

Also when you are trying to get it into your pockets it gets stuck cause of the friction from the case, I took the case off indoors, pretty sure I am just going to keep it off

^ To each his own! This is part of what I appreciate about the case. I hated how slippery my Kompakt was in my pocket for the first 17 days that I had the Kompakt without the case, which mistakenly was excluded from the original shipment. The case has given me confidence that my Kompakt no longer can slip out of my pocket.

Which color do you have @kirkmahoneyphd?

Pebble Gray case for Pebble Gray Kompakt

Also a good point, and I guess with the added friction of trying to get it out of your pocket will make you less likely to grab it mindlessly when you are bored lol, I do find I do that because I have an addictive personality but my brain still hasn’t figured out there ain’t nothing to do on the kompakt! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

I think ultimately the only time I will have the case on is when I am hiking, other than that I just love the feel of the phone in the hands, I am very careful with my phones lp2 I have is still in mint condition never dropped it once, when you know you don’t have a case on it you are more careful

Yeah, it took me couple days for my brain to stop being bothered by white MK screen (like something was going on that a smartphone screen is lit).
