Will Kompakt have an unlocked bootloader?

The Kompakt looks like the phone I’ve wanted for years, due to the e-Ink, the kill switch, headphone jack, and the inclusion of mapping. And since it’s Android under the hood, I look forward to writing a custom app for it.
However I do have a question: Will the bootloader be unlocked so that we will be able to flash an OS onto the device ourselves, rather than rely on the OS installed at the factory in China? And will you provide a pristine ROM from your servers in Poland for us to use?
I ask this because there’s recently been a discovery that factories in China have been shipping devices with malware preinstalled, e.g. affecting Hisense phones.
For more info about that, google: badbox infected android phones
The problem of Android phones coming with malware preinstalled has existed for as long as Android has existed.

Its on post 2023 HiSense devices (too bad since they are nice manufacturer), so I am safe since my HiSense is older.
I doubt anyone sells OS bootloader enabled devices, but I ll leave the team to answer.

All Pixel phones have always come with an unlocked bootloader when bought from Google. Motorola lets you unlock your Moto phone’s bootloader with a code that they provide. Some Samsungs allow it as well.

Hi, thank you for posting and asking!
While we don’t support this for Mudita Kompakt, technologically advanced users will be able to unlock and bootload 3rd party OS. However, we will not provide our ROM for that.
Let me know if you have any other questions.

When you refer to rooting, do you mean:
A) Force-unlocking the bootloader which requires a hack, like running KingRoot to unlock the bootloader?
B) Will the bootloader be unlockable in Developer Mode so that an app like that isn’t required? Like with Pixel phones and some Samsung phones?
C) Or will Mudita need to provide a special code to unlock the bootloader, like with Moto phones?
Which of these do you mean?
Also what is the reason for Mudita’s policy?

I’m sorry it took so long to respond. Holiday breaks and the way they warp time…
The response I got from our team is that it’s as easy–or difficult, depending on technical skills– as entering the Developer Mode (similiar to the Pixel phone, for example). Then using Android Debug Bridge to install.
You might find this video by @Jose_Briones interesting:

As for the reason, Mudita Kompakt was always meant to be a minimalist phone, offering a refuge from the hassle of constant notifications and a unified, bespoke mobile experience. External software won’t always fit the minimalist vision or even work efficiently with E Ink. That said, we wanted to offer the freedom to customise the mobile experience mentioned above according to the user’s needs, if they really want to. It’s a tricky balance, I know–but it’s impossible to make everyone happy.

^ I love this explanation, along with a recent one from @urszula: “helping users stay connected without falling into the trap of constant engagement

@kirkmahoneyphd I’m glad I’m an inspiration.
I’m picking up my Kompakt at the office tomorrow, so I get to play around with it as well
