Running this on Kompakt 1.4.0, it’s been my daily messenger for a few weeks. . Calls, voice notes, groups, photo sharing all behave in an acceptable way. Bluetooth audio holds up for calls. Brought my iPhone history over with the companion device flow and that worked first try.
Updates aren’t in-app, you sideload the new APK each time.
Solid 4 from me. Imperfect but it does the job and it’s the reason I haven’t switched back.

Posting it here for clarity, until its hopefully fixed:
Using this on Mudita OS K 1.4.0 with the apk from the official Whatsapp page and installed via Mudita Center. Obviously not the author so just sharing my experience, would love to hear how others are getting on with it.
The basics hold up: messaging, voice notes, group chats, sharing photos all work fine for me day to day. My iPhone chat history came over using WhatsApp’s “companion device” pairing flow, same pairing you’d use to put it on a desktop, after I saw a few others on the forum have reported the same approach working.
Notifications are the part where it gets interesting. With DuraSpeed enabled for WhatsApp mine come through reliably, but going through the forum it’s clear this is something a lot of people have had to tune. Battery optimisation can put the app to sleep, and some folks use wake-on-data tricks or force-stop/reopen routines to keep things consistent. Worth knowing this is tuneable rather than guaranteed.
Updates aren’t in-app. When WhatsApp asks you to update, you grab the latest APK and reinstall it. The cleanest path I’ve found is downloading on the desktop and pushing it through Mudita Center.
One specific thing to flag: location sharing inside chats won’t work because Kompakt’s GPS is configured to be receive-only by design.
4 stars from me. Workable as a daily messenger, and going by the forum it’s the reason a lot of people manage to keep Kompakt as their primary phone.
Curious how it’s been for others, especially anyone running it on 1.4. Would be useful to compare notes.

Honestly the app works, but I do think it drains my battery quite a bit. of course the general UI is not meant for an E-ink phone like Kompakt–I know that. But I was curious if there are minimal versions of WhatsApp that are available out there that are more compatible and do not drain your battery so much!

How did you bring your chat history with you from iPhone to Kompakt?? I tried but the history stayed on the iPhone. Anyways, other than the fact that it’s a little slow and the QR code thing for linking the computer is a bit janky. Is an ok app.

on your iphone, settings–>chat–>move to android. (I’d plug the iphone in and keep it unlocked i’m pretty sure it stops/pauses if it locks)
on your kompakt, if you already set whatsapp up, just clear the cache and memory (you can do this is under settings –> manage apps –> whatsapp –> three dots on top) and start over the setting up phase of the app. While the iphone is looking for devices nearby if you set it up, they generally recognise each other. IF NOT;
Again, clear cache and memory of whatsapp; You can’t do this after you set up. Before you enter your phone number, again locate the three dots there should be a button for Linking older device or something like that. Click that, there will be a QR code, scan it with the older iphone (using whatsapp’s scan function not the phones!) and it should transfer all your chats. I did this months ago when I switched, it definitely works. If you would encounter problems, try to send screenshots, hope I can help.
