How has your guys’ experience been with receiving WhatsApp notifications (audible alert) while the app is in the background? Personally, it felt like some battery optimization is going on and the app doesn’t receive notifications, but it may have just been a one-time thing. After allowing the app to run in the background, it seems all notifications are coming through:
Let me know If any of you are experiencing the same issues, to see If the extra steps are even necessary. Keep in mind that allowing WhatsApp to run in the background will affect battery life.
I have the same. All notifications are turned off and still get the annoying sounds. This is for me really a dealbreaker because nothing screams annoying that all those notification sounds.
@jfoigjboiwjefaij You can use the Offline+ Mode, and then you won’t get any notifications. Once you turn it on, all the messages will be delivered. I just tested it.
I don’t have WhatsApp on my Kompakt so I didn’t test, but maybe this helps: If you sideload an app that can run hidden activities for you (e.g. Activity Manager or Activity Launcher), under the Settings app (com.android.settings) you can start the Settings$NotificationAppListActivity and change notification settings for apps.
So can someone confirm, if I have whatsapp installed I will get notifications for it no matter what? Even if chats are muted in the app or the app is closed? If so, this would be a pretty big issue for me. I hope the developers can fix this soon.
Thank you! That is super helpful!
If other people are interested, this is the way you can turn on/off notifications for your sideloaded apps, or change their notification tone / vibration.
Here’s how I did it, hopefully you can follow along.
How to access notification settings for sideloaded apps
This lets you change which sideloaded apps send notifications, which tone they use, whether they’re silent, vibrate, etc.
Step 1: Sideload the app “Activity Manager” (I got it from F-droid)
Step 6: Now you can just turn on and off the notification settings. Or click on the little bell to the left of any notification type, and you can configure its sound/vibration
It’s funny to see so many people asking to silence the notification sound of their messenger while I desperately look for a way to get a visual queue so I don’t need to check the phone so often. People are different. And that’s great!
+1 to this! Mudita could also make use of the RGB LED.
We have a beautiful e-ink screen that could easily display a simple lockscreen with notification counters for enabled apps, while still maintaining the phone’s minimalist purpose.
