Wow camera too…I have to say every 2 weeks its becoming more and more likely I will be cancelling my Light phone 3 order…Fingers crossed though I hope this does not have a browser, that will be a deal breaker for me…also hoping there is a directions tool on here…not a deal breaker for me BUT would be nice to have!

Also PLEASE have group text messaging…if not its LP3 for sure for me

The lack of either a browser or support for banking apps will be a deal-breaker for me. By the way, if the messaging app has support for RCS, group messaging should work. Apple is adding support to iOS 18 and I am able to use it in the beta.

From the picture earlier, it seemed the phone can be unlocked with the power button. I was under the impression there is a fingerprint reader below the screen.

Looks pretty awesome. I’m very curious how bulky it will be.

I guess it will be similar to the iPhone 5s in size.

We do not know enough about it yet to make any conclusions.

Hi Mudita team,

I have been following you for a while and the sneak peaks for the Mudita Kompakt are unfortunately disappointing to me, so I decided to post the following message to know if I should still wait or give up.

After being an iPhone user for decades, I switched, a year ago, to a Nokia Though 800 which I like but is still not fulfilling all my basic phone needs.

I am an IT guy in search for a phone that :

  • minimizes addictions (NOMOphobia, FOMO, Control freak, candy colors, dopamine engineered apps…),
  • gives a really damn good battery autonomy and
  • has an open source OS (and is therefore not GAFAM oriented!)

For me, the two major ways to achieve these are a not too big e-ink black and white display and a degooglized android OS.

I want a phone that doesn’t need to be charged every day but more likely every week or even less often than that.

I think that a not too big e-ink B&W display is the best way to prevent addiction and enhance battery autonomy. Black and white is not eye-catching at all and low display refresh rate makes it even more unattractive while not preventing to do absolutely needed tasks.

Your sneak peaks are focusing on interface design which, IMHO, is not the most important point (not saying that is a nice have). I don’t care that much if my phone has an ugly interface (it might even make me willing to stay more away from it !).

I care about not charging it so often, not being addicted to my phone and I also care about not being completely banned-off my people network apps. Even if I don’t like an app, I should be able to install it. In my case, many people I interact with are still using Whatsapp. I hate Whatsapp but I don’t wan’t to impose my radicalism to all my friends. So, I would like to be able to install what I need.

Other apps that I really need are banking apps, some transportation apps and GPX compatible map apps.

I don’t think that Mudita should choose which apps are good for people but just make a phone that enhances freedom, lowers addictions and gives way better autonomy without deciding what is important to everyone.

Please, give us more information about what you are preparing with Mudita Kompakt. Which OS underneath ? Ability to use f-droid ? I am really tempted to give waiting and buying an /e/os fairphone…

The Kompakt definitely has an e-ink display. I’m expecting the refresh rate to be comparable to the other e-ink smartphones already available in the market. How can you get banking apps without the Google Play Store?

Hi @orioncentaury! Welcome to the Mudita Forum! We’re super glad that you’re here:

Thank you for sharing your thoughts and concerns with us. We understand that Mudita Kompakt might not meet everyone’s expectations, especially for users like you with specific technical requirements and preferences.

Mudita Kompakt is designed with a focus on mindful technology use. Our goal is to help users reduce screen time and cultivate a healthier relationship with their devices. The clean and custom operating system we have developed prioritizes simplicity, privacy, and digital well-being, rather than offering the vast array of apps and features found in traditional smartphones.

While our device emphasizes minimalism and the essentials, we understand that it may not meet every individual’s needs, particularly for those who rely on specific apps or require a broader range of functionalities. Unfortunately, we can’t provide full details on all features at this time, but we can assure you that Mudita Kompakt aligns with our philosophy of simplicity and mindful living.

If you are looking for a phone that minimizes distractions, fosters focus, and provides a more balanced digital experience, Mudita Kompakt could be a great fit. However, we recognize that this approach may not suit everyone, and we respect your decision if you choose to explore other options like the /e/os fairphone that better align with your needs.

Thank you for your understanding and for considering Mudita Kompakt.
We think Mudita Kompakt is worth the wait, but that’s just us
Finding a device that supports your lifestyle and values is important

There was no sneak peek this week. But, we have a new picture on the home page.

Looking at the picture, I am hoping the fingerprint sensor is below the display. Having one in the power button would not be convenient.

I found another competition on the horizon https://lo-fone.com

It looks like a feature phone with a few additional features. We’ll have to wait to know more. With more competition, each of us could find something fitting our preferences.

Here is what I got by email when I joined that waiting list:

Yes. A minimalist phone does not need a touchscreen let alone a colour display. For calls and messages, there are plenty of feature phones at a fraction of the price.

I strongly agree and cannot justify the expense either.

There is a difference the cheap dumbphones look CHEAP. Why do people buy rolexes when they can just buy a cheap casio?
I will never understand this argument. We will pay and waste money on alcohol, junk food etc never saying it costs too much but if we are asked to pay a premium for something that is good for us all of a sudden its too expensive…give me a break. I will GLADLY pay a premium if something is making my life better, my mental health and making me a better husband and father. You cannot put a price on that. And more importantly no one is asking you pay that price. Its a CHOICE, you don’t want to buy it then don’t…simple as that

Money cannot buy wisdom. I’m sure you have heard of the emperor’s new clothes.

I understand the reason the Pure was expensive. It was assembled in the EU and made in a small quantity. The e-ink display added to the cost. The premium quality cannot on its own justify a price comparable to that of a smartphone.
