Way to enable ringtone for calls, but no notification sounds for other apps?

I know that a custom notifications is part of the upcoming update to MuditaOS K 2.0. However, I’m still curious if someone here found a way to be able to have ringtone sound on, without notification sounds for other apps but still have these notifications show up on my lock screen (I use Glance review by wander )? I don’t mind side loading an app if it helps me achieve this. I already have Activity Manager installed but I don’t know what setting to look for.

I anyone can help that would be greatly appreciated!

This sounds like a good thing, and one would hope it exists, but the paucity of per-app settings available that I’ve discovered so far makes me think you are probably whistling in the wind.

There is a way now, through Activity Manager. The Kompakt still carries Android’s own per-app notification page; Mudita’s settings just don’t link to it.

  1. In Activity Manager, open Settings (com.android.settings) and launch Settings$NotificationAppListActivity.
  2. That lists every app. Tap an app’s name (not its switch, which turns its notifications off altogether).
  3. Tap each category the app has and choose Silent instead of Default.

A silent notification makes no sound, but it is still posted, so Glance still counts it and shows its text the same as before. Leave the Phone app as it is and the ringtone keeps ringing.

Two things to know: it is per app, so a new app starts out with sound until you set it, and an app that makes a new category later (some messengers do) needs that one set too.

Yup trust me I have been waiting for this for so long does not seem like it will ever be done. Your best best is activity manager where you can set the notifcations for text messages to silent, If you never want to toggle them back off you can then delete acitivity manager from the kompakt and it will stay in the off position, but you won’t be able to turn text notifcations back on without installing activity manager back onto the kompakt. But if you are okay with it being on the kompakt then you can just keep the app on there. I have it on my kompakt at it doesn’t drain the battery at all

Glance 0.1.16 now does this with one switch, so there’s no need to go app by app.

Under Sound in Glance: Ring for calls only. Calls and alarms ring, music still plays, and every other notification comes in silent, still showing on the lock screen and on the Glance panel. It is a Do Not Disturb rule of Glance’s own, so the phone’s own Do Not Disturb settings are left as they are. It needs the notification access you already gave Glance for counting other apps.

One thing to know: switching the phone’s own Do Not Disturb on and off again turns this off too. Press it again in Glance to bring it back.

“There is a way now, through Activity Manager.”

Oh great.

Yet another third-party app that a user has to know about, find, install, run - in order to get the Kompakt to actually do what it is capable of.

I was already very happy when you explained how to do it in activity manager, but this switch is even better! Thanks!!

I agree that it’s odd that these kinds of (seemingly basic) functions are not available by default in MuditaOS. It does make the product feel rather unfinished. I don’t mind doing a little digging and installing third party apps to customize my device exactly to my needs and wants (I actually kind of enjoy it), but I also understand that this doesn’t work for everyone. The Kompakt could probably be bigger if the OS was a bit more polished. Still, I am happy with my choice to buy one!

It’s too big as it is, though I cannot see quite how improving the software would add any physical size.

I got one because it was just small enough, had a daylight-readable screen and good battery life.

But the OS is not at the polishing stage yet, it’s more like a raw casting, lumps and bumps and holes all over.

Ha no I mean its user base would be bigger!

Yes, this feature is coming in the MuditaOS K 2.0 next month.

And, yes, as others have pointed out, this can be achieved with 3rd party apps in the meantime.
