Using MK without any sideloaded apps

Hi, I am so curious as to whether many others are doing this?

I used my Kompakt for quite a while stock, but I decided that I wanted to add a more privacy respecting messaging app than SMS, so I have sideloaded an encryted messsenger that handles messages and pictures better and that my carrier doesnt charge for, I also then have loaded a small number of other apps which address battery usage caused by the mesenger app and compliment its use.

I only have 3 sidloaded apps installed so I have resisted the urge to turn the MK into a smartphone

I do, yes, I am using it as a phone.

The meditation app is nice. .

No side-loaded apps - dead stock. Just use it as a phone, and very happy with the Mudita. I never expected, or wanted, it to be a swiss army knife phone…..

Same here. Currently using it for talk and text. I’ve an iPad which I use the kompakt for data. So that works for me.
I’m happy enough with the apps as such.
However I’d like to have the apps as are upgraded. Or the software system to include as an upgrade feature, some of the usages you get from, Whatshapp or other messaging systems.
I don’t want to sideload apps. Maybe I will in the future, suchlike communication and reading.
However, I feel the need to utilise what I have on the mk before I start stressing the boundaries.

Regarding upgrading the software as is, I’d venture

  1. Music to integrate radio in its makeup.
  2. Messaging to integrate language, as in native language of host countries. Or choice there of.
  3. Maps, to record routes walked, or steps taken, with the option of adding fitness routines etc,.
  4. Messaging to integrate the recording features to talk text.
  5. Notes to have same feature as four.
  6. Messaging to have option of being able to connect with messaging apps, to download those messages, rather than side loading the apps.
  7. E-reader to have similar access to different e-reader apps, without having to sideload those apps.
  8. Maybe have a similar app that one could connect to a local library. This could be integrated with the e reader app.
  9. Maps to have an access or option to connect with travel times, etc,. For example times for busses trains, or suchlike.

I only added waze for directions because it helps me avoid traffic, calmmaps so I can look things up like a browser but not get sucked into actually using a browser, Katapul cause I like this launcher and it allows me to silence text notifications something you can’t do on the kompakt , and a habits tracker app that is very useful for me. So a total of 4 sideloaded apps nothing more nothing less, all tools in my opinion and nothing that encourages infinite scrolling

Currently the only sideloaded app is WhatsApp. I’d like to use a different tool, but in my country it’s the de facto standard for communication. I don’t know if there are plans for a single app that collects text messages and messages from different apps in the future. I think it would be very useful and convenient. In this way you’d avoid installing a non-proprietary app that also sucks up a lot of battery and data (?). I don’t know if this is planned for future updates but I have a feeling this could become the default setup for European users.
