US Providers That Work

Hey everyone,
Do we know what current US Providers work?

Thanks!

For the USA, I emphasized with underlining those bands that match the 4G/LTE bands supported by the ā€˜North-America optimized’ version of the Kompakt (2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 18, 19, 26, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 71).

USA:
  • AT&T: 2, 4, 5, 12, 14, 17, 29, 30, 66
  • T-Mobile USA: 2, 4, 5, 12, 66, 71
  • Verizon Wireless: 2, 4, 5, 13, 46, 48, 66

If you are asking for reports from individuals living in the USA with the ā€˜North-America optimized’ version of the Mudita Kompakt, then you will have to wait for Mudita to ship that version!

Addendum:

Assuming that Wikipedia has the latest information, here with underlining emphasis are those T-Mobile USA bands that match the 4G/LTE bands supported by the ā€˜North-America optimized’ version of the Kompakt (2, 4, 5, 7, 8, 12, 13, 18, 19, 26, 34, 38, 39, 40, 41, 71).

  • T-Mobile USA: 2, 4, 5, 12, 13, 25, 26, 41, 46, 48, 66, 71

This covers rf compatibility but also worth noting, as far as I’m aware (please correct me if I’m wrong) T-Mobile is the only provider in the USA that doesn’t whitelist IMEIs so unless Mudita has explicitly gotten their phone certified with other providers, do NOT expect it to work with anyone other than T-Mobile in the USA.

Thanks T-Mobile for respecting your customers.

So if I have Verizon it wont work? Sorry I got confused by your post.

I would not expect it to work with Verizon unless Mudita explicitly says that the Mudita Kompakt is certified to work with Verizon in the USA. This is an issue largely unique to USA cell providers. Maybe @urszula can answer for sure

You also could wait for someone with a ā€œNorth Americanā€ Kompakt + VZW service to post here.

True! Now I am very worried since my plan is with Verizon…

This is the most detail that I could find about the North American version’s compatibility with VZW:

@urszula would have to tell us whether VZW has ā€œblessedā€ the North American version. As @clippy wrote, VZW is very picky.

For example, based on what I have seen in his videos and on his Indiegogo page, Rob Braxman has reported that his about-to-be-released BraX3 smartphone is NOT compatible with Verizon. Rob advises US-based viewers to go with a deGoogled Pixel cellphone, any of which VZW has ā€œblessedā€ as compatible.

For what it’s worth, Jose has stated that he can get service with Verizon and AT&T in this clip https://youtube.com/clip/Ugkx-jPy-4sNhm7tQLQw72qQ5k2JSHE2oFR1?si=3jLf92J2pcqlTcZT

@kirkmahoneyphd To our knowledge it does work & there should not be any issues. We do have the PTCRB certification, so that lets me sleep well at night, knowing there won’t be any issues. Additionally, as it has been pointed out, Jose tested both Verizon & AT&T, stating they both work, so I do trust him as well.

Someone on the subreddit also got it to work, they just needed to use a second phone to activate the SIM card first

Man, I wish there were more concrete information available about what carriers are supported, etc. out of the box. I’d rather not have to make calls and get codes to make it ā€œhopefullyā€ work properly with my carrier.

This is taking my anxiety on a joyride lol.

You should thank your lucky stars you never had the Mudita Pure in North America lol, that was a journey I will never forget, I was literally switching providers like 5 times trying to find the one that would allow me to call and text , so happy I will not have to worry about that with the Kompakt here in Canada

While it would still be an irritant, it would be much easier to keep cool if I were on an account alone and could easily switch, but I have my whole family on a plan and it would be rough to try and move everyone and/or take on a 2nd plan.

Yeah that would be frustrating!

@jim_s
In October 2024, we ran radio tests on the global version of Kompakt in the U.S., and it connected well with Verizon, AT&T and T-Mobile, as well as with MVNOs like Lyca and Ultra that operate on T-Mobile’s infrastructure
@Jose_Briones also tested his Mudita Kompakt on several networks, one of them was Mint Mobile.

I appreciate the response, however I hope it makes sense to still be nervous as any time this issue appears, the default response seems to amount to a virtual shrug and ā€œIt should be good… a non-employee Youtuber that likes our phone got it to work?!ā€

Optimistic heresay is cool when it’s a friend telling me a story, less cool when it’s a company providing me information about the multiple devices I have ordered lol.

I hope this doesn’t come off as rude, as it’s not intended to be, just… cautious.

Mudita isn’t located in the US and the issue is explicitly with US providers (the issue is on Verizon restricting access rather than on the hardware end). I don’t know that we’ll be able to give a full ā€œhere’s how you do itā€ until people in the US actually receive the device.
