Does anyone know if it’s possible to backup one’s phone, its apps, settings and configuration? I’m looking forward to OS updates, but I seem to recall some mentioning that this would effectively mean reinstalling all the apps again.
(For want of native alternatives, I consider these essential on my MK: Foobar2000 music player, Pocket Casts, Chrono (timer app!), Futo Keyboard, Futo Voice Input for voice-to-text input) and Obsidian and Signal)
In all honesty, I can’t face reinstalling all these and diving into the settings for each app every time I update the OS.
As far as I know, that only happens when you manually FLASH the OS. When I did the 1.1.1 update- nothing changed on my end- my sideloaded apps stayed the same & nothing was erased.
Thanks @urszula. Did that include all your themes, options and settings etc.? I ask because it’s taken me quite some time and experimentation to get sideloaded apps to appear well on e-Ink often using different high-contrast or monochromatic themes etc. And I couldn’t face going through that rigmarole every time.
Also, @brendxn makes a good point. Does the backup feature via the Mudita Center preserve all these settings, too? Confirmation on this would be great.
Glad to hear it. So, updates seem non-destructive enough.
The outstanding question is the backup feature in mudita centre. Can one perform a backup, do a factory reset, restore the backup and expect everything to be prior to the reset? This is key info. What exactly is backed up and restored, please?
@urszula, it’s been 6 months since I asked about backing up the MK, but no reply so far. What’s the state of play, please? How does ‘backing up’ actually work? What is backed up and what isn’t?
If the situation was unclear in May (shortly after launch), I hope now (6 months later) that it’s crystal clear. So, what’s the answer please?
@petemeister Sorry about this. I was sure I answered it. Our team confirmed that Mudita Kompakt backup includes ONLY things such as contacts, notes, text messages, and call logs & alarms. It does not include phone settings, app configurations, or the sideloaded apps themselves.
However, like I mentioned before, a MuditaOS K update does not wipe anything or undo any settings, so you shouldn’t worry about that.
