There has to be a way to turn off sounds for SMS! Oh my gosh please don’t tell me I just bought a minimalist phone that forces me to hear a sound for an SMS if I want to have the ringer turned on.
also disappointed, apparently such feature is too advanced for the Mudita minimalist mindset
I agree it, almost a year since release and this has not been updated, how are we suppose to be in the moment and mindful when text messages sounds are going off, I had to sideload quik messenger to replace the stock sms app because its the only way you can silence notifications. Because as of right now if you need to take a nap but still have to be available for phone calls you can’t and that to me is just RIDICULOUS. they need to update this ASAP
I wonder whether the stock SMS app will let you silence notifications after this end-of-the-page – meaning not until Q4 2026? – bullet-item from the MuditaOS K Roadmap & Updates page gets implemented:
For you and so many other Kompakt users, @Cardioman79, it cannot come too soon!
@nikkirodney Custom sounds & ringtones are on the roadmap & I do understand where you’re coming from. I’m the same way & I like my phone as silent as possible- especially when I am working.
So this is my set up (Advanced Sound Settings)
The DRUM notification sound, at the lowest volume is actually very nice. You can barely hear it when the phone is next to you. If I keep it in my purse, I don’t hear it at all.
the problem is that the lowest sound you can’t hear a phone call coming
@Cardioman79: These two AI-generated answers may explain why MuditaOS K today does not have separate volume controls for ringing and notification, and the second answer seems to give some workarounds:
Prompt: “on what version of AOSP is MuditaOS K based?”
Answer:
Prompt: “how to set notification volume separately from ring volume in AOSP”
Answer:
By the way, my Sunbeam Wireless F1 Pro Maple also lacks a separate control for notification volume, so I assume that Sunbeam’s BasicOS is a fork of something earlier than AOSP 14:
Fortunately, one of the available notification sounds on the Maple is “Silence” – presumably a ‘blank’ audio file.
Perhaps Mudita will make a “Silence” notification sound available for the Kompakt.
Thank you. This is really sad for me and may cause me to return within my 14 days. But to be clear, isn’t the control for volume of phone calls and sms one control? Meaning if I turn down drum for text then calls are also super low? I need to be able to hear my phone when I’m working and my daughter calls from school but not hear texts coming in all day.
If you can add an MP3 file to your Kompakt’s collection of notification sounds, then you may want to add one of these and then select it as your notification sound:
Those are two separate settings. As you can see from my settings- MY RING setting is different than my notification setting.
So this makes a difference for me.
@urszula, are you saying this?
- MuditaOS K now lets users choose separate VOLUME levels for the “Phone Ringtone” vs. the “Notification Sound”.
That would be great news!
Not yet, that’s coming, for now you have SEPARATE sound options so, you can choose a barely audible sound for texts (which is really low, even when the volume is set to low) and a louder more audible RINGTONE for phone calls. That’s how I’m making it work until I can set custom volume for each.
