Hey everybody, I am new to this forum.
I have only had the Kompact for a few weeks, but I am generally very satisfied with the device.
Today I wanted to download music to my phone for the first time. Unfortunately, this takes half an eternity (around 1 1/2 hrs). There are 99 songs, with an average size of 3-6 MB per song. I have connected the Kompact to the Mac via USB as normal and otherwise have no apps on that consume a lot of resources or anything.
Is it so slow with you too?

Welcome to the forum, Oli.
I just transferred 100 songs in flac format (~30MB/ea, 3GB total) to the internal storage within 5 minutes from a Mac Mini using an Apple USB-C to USB-C cable.
If you are using an SD card, I’d suggest removing it from the phone and plugging it directly to your computer instead.
Could be the cable you are using is slow? Or the port in your computer you plugged into is the old USB 1 or 2? Try switching these two for another cable or USB port.
Are you using Mudita Center for this?

So at first I’ve used a USB-USBC cable so Ive thought maybe this has caused the problem, but unfortunately the transfer is very slow with an usb-c to usb-c too. And @urszula: yes, ive used the Mudita Center.
As another example ive transferred the CalmCast app (57 MB) just a few minutes ago and this process has taken around 10 minutes.

I got my Kompakt today. I am using the Mudita Center (latest version), and my phone also is running the latest version of the OS… and I see that USB transfers are depressingly slow. I am transferring an app that is 80MB and it is taking more than 20 minutes. That’s insane.
What’s the limitation here? I tried multiple cables but have the same experience with all of them.

Hi, just a side note on this topic: based on our customer service experience, the majority of issues of this kind come either from the quality of the cable itself. The second common reason, especially for PCs, is that the USB drivers are not up to date or are not fully compatible with the chipset on the computer’s motherboard. But this is just a speculation, as Ula mentioned, please better contact our customer support.
Hi Michael, I just received the MK today and I am observing similar behavior on version 1.5.0.
Transferring a 100MB .apk takes over 60 minutes using a USB C-to-C cable. Using the same cable with my mp3 player, I was able to transfer 1.7GB in just under 2 minutes.
Tested direct transfer from PC to Kompakt using a usb C data cable:
Results: 167 songs = 1.32GB in 2mins 15sec
Just yesterday I wanted to transfer and install a .apk via the Mudita Center and the transfer was extremly slow. Because I know that Preview on my Mac blocks Android File Transfer, I thought perhaps it is also an obstacle for the Mudita Center and after I closed Preview the transfer wasn’t a problem anymore. So not only the cable can be a problem but also other running apps.
I’m not sure what changed, but file transfers are fast again! @kiss_less, I tried this with Preview.app open and closed, tried previewing different files but didn’t notice a difference. At this point I’m unable to recreate the behavior.
I think that complex systems like computers seem to show sometimes erratic behaviours because we don’t see all that happens inside. Years ago I worked in accounting and in the evening when I shut down the computer I always had to quit Excel first and the accounting app after, the other way round the computer froze. We never knew why.
Thanks for flagging this. I will ask the team if this is normal behavior. I have to admit, I’ve never transferred such a large amount of files, so I can’t compare.
This behavior occurred again while using my Macbook and Mudita Center.app
as @kiss_less suggested, I quit Preview.App and immediately the file transfer speed returned to normal. I consider this a very low-priority issue, especially since Apple has a tendency abruptly break compatibility with third party devices (sometimes even first party). However, it’s good for MK users to know!
I have encountered the same issue : files transfers were EXTREMELY slow using Mudita Center and very fast as expected when using directly my computer file manager… So there is definitely no drawback at all just drag’n’dropping the files directly from your computer file manager.
(Linux PC here, Manjaro KDE)
But I had the feeling the situation had improved recently. I’ll double check ASAP.
@bidinou & @Little-User Just a heads up- I’m waiting for my team to let me know if this is something that’s related to the computer type, cable, OR the Mudita Center app using those environments.
I use a PC & for me me, getting a solid, good quality USB-C cable helped. When I used the same cable as I did for charging (the thin kind) I also experienced some connection issues & lag. But once I switched to the better quality cable, all was well. However, that’s just my experience.
Hi Urszula : I’ll get my Kompakt back in a few days to double check if it still occurs. But the important point is : transfer is slow through the Mudita Center but not directly through the OS (copying files via the OS files explorer). The difference is massive and yes, it happens with any good recent cable.
The team got back to me about what could affect the speed of file transfers:
The speed of file transfers can depend on several factors, including whether you’re transferring files to the phone’s internal storage or an SD card, the USB cable being used, and the connection method available on your computer.
If you’re using Windows File Explorer, transfers may sometimes be faster than when transferring files through Mudita Center. However, that may bot always be possible if you’re on a Mac or Linux- you you gotta use Mudita Center.
When using Mudita Center, one of the biggest factors is whether the connection uses MTP or SerialPort. MTP is significantly faster for file transfers. On Windows, MTP connections tend to be more consistently available and stable. MTP also works on macOS and Linux, but depending on the system configuration, running applications, permissions, and other factors, Mudita Center may sometimes fall back to SerialPort instead.
In our testing, we haven’t observed a meaningful speed difference between operating systems when comparing the same transfer method:
So if you’re experiencing particularly slow transfers, it may not necessarily be because you’re using macOS, Linux, or Windows. The connection method being used is likely to have a much greater impact.
