So I went looking for a to-do app on my Kompakt and there just… wasn’t one. Genuinely surprised me. I basically lived in Things3 on iOS for years, so I figured I’d rebuild the bits of it I actually used and make them feel right on e-ink.
What it does:
opens straight to today’s to-dos
plan things for a later date (they only show up once that day arrives), and see everything ahead in Upcoming
checklists inside a to-do (groceries → the actual items); tick them all and the to-do can auto-complete itself (you can disable this in settings)
tags, deadlines, repeating to-dos, and a Logbook of what you’ve finished
you can set when “today” actually starts (mine rolls over at 3am)
I built it for myself first, so it does what I need and probably misses stuff you need.
Which is kind of why I’m posting it. I’d really like to hear what you think, what’s missing, what feels off on your device. Tell me and I’ll have a go at fixing it.
I was also a fan and daily user of Things 3 on mac/iphone. So I love this basic Eink version of it.
The only thing I’m missing so far is the possibility to add a reminder.
For example to set a reminder for 11:00 today to call my dentist.
Maybe similar to the reminder / notification feature in the native calander app on the Kompakt?
I wonder how you think about this and whether you see a possibility to add this feature…
Reminders — set a time on a to-do and get a notification when it’s due; tap it to open the to-do. Works like Things 3: the reminder is a time on the task’s “When” day, and adding one to an undated to-do schedules it for Today. Recurring to-dos carry their reminder to each occurrence.
Lock-screen alerts — a reminder lights the screen and shows a full-screen card (Open / Dismiss) on the lock screen, since the Kompakt otherwise keeps third-party notifications off the lock screen.
Pick your reminder sound — Settings → Reminder sound: choose from the device’s notification tones, with a tap-to-preview.
Changed
Opening Settings no longer pops up the keyboard — “Day starts at” is now a tap-to-open time picker.
The reminder-sound list opens fully instead of half-open.
“Keep completed to-dos” options no longer wrap onto two lines on the narrow screen.
@jurjen I had some spare time today, so took the time to add the reminders
