this update fixed a lot, never mind apple music, this is great!
Concerning the morality questions, there is tons of applications and websites for downloading from youtube and I also don’t think we’re taking it from the poor here.
Tiny bug I found so far is that the artist and album info is kept in my list, even if I deleted all songs:
and one more small improvement idea. I thing it would be easier to search for things, if the typing window would refresh, when you are going for a new search (the spotify app for example does it that way, listing the last searches beyond to click on) or at least get a tiny X to delete all text in the typing window. its small and its sometimes a hassle to delete all text in there after having entered a long song title.
Hi @davidray - question about the current state of the CalmTunes app. Does it also function as an improvement over the native music app in the storage/organization of local music files on the device? So I can use it to play my own music and not interface with the YouTube component at all?
I somehow cannot play any streamed song anymore since today. When I click on a song, its loading but the song never starts. Already downloaded songs work without a problem (before I reinstalled). I tried deleting all data and reinstalling. Got the newest version 1.1.6 installed. Is that a bug or what am I doing wrong?
Newpipe, which is the tool I use to extract the YouTube url, is currently broken. They are continuously playing games with YouTube to reverse engineer their api calls to get the data. Once they have a concrete solution, I’ll update my app.
I just tried the current version but can’t get to any music files. I select the “Music” folder, but it says something like “Can’t use this folder, no files in there”. But there is clearly a bunch of MP3’s in the Music folder, and any other music app shows them. Any ideas ?
First time using the app. Since it’s still a beta, I didn’t try it before.
All files are .mp3, 320 kbps. Like I said, the native music player and other 3rd party players show all of the files.
Is there a way to access Youtube Music via an API? I have a YouTube Premium subscription which includes YouTube Music and would love to stream on my Mudita.
As @YYZ mentioned, there is an app that will do what you’re asking, though not optimized for e-ink.
From the perspective of utilizing it in CalmMusic, this is a pretty large task because of the way apps like SimpMusic have to play games with YouTube. One small change from YouTube can cripple their app for days or weeks depending on the change.
My reliance on NewPipe Extractor already proved how fragile it can be. Luckily my reliance is very small and I use a very small portion of what NewPipe does so supporting updates is pretty easy.
All that to say, I am continuing to look into full YouTube Music support, just do not plan on it very soon.
