The paint wears off

Have been most happy with my Mudita Kompakt for the past 2,5 months of use, kept from the first day in the case. Today I took it out of the case for the first time to see the paint coming off at the back and on the sides—well just the wrinkles, the scratch I’ve done just to see how easily it comes off. I suspect using 99.7% Isopropyl alcohol to clean the phone with the case on wasn’t a good idea, if some of it penetrates beneath the case and possibly damages the paint…I can think of no other cause. Hopefully it’s just an aesthetic issue that can be hidden with the case… But still, this unhappy surprise made me think that in terms of material and overall build I would be willing to pay more for a more premium version of Kompakt—with aluminum frame, among other things.

.

Anyone else has that paint coming off? And is this issue exclusive just to the black version of the product?

Nope, not at all since preorder delivery. :o

My gray one looks great because it’s fully plastic.
The black one has a rubberized coating added to it, which is the main reason I chose gray.

It’s just a matter of time when it happens, rubberized coatings always break off or become gooey/slimy.

oh wow I didn’t know when I picked my color, I guess I didn’t pay much attention, turns out I got lucky when I picked gray as well

@simonmtyas Oh boy. I will ask our team about this just to be sure, but I suspect that it was the isopropyl alcohol.
High-purity solvents like 90–100% isopropyl alcohol tend to have this effect on the type of plastics used in Mudita Kompakt.

All soft-touch plastic eventually dissolves into a gross, sticky mess. It’s only a matter of time. I have a 14 year old thinkpad with that coating on the lid that is still fine, but some other devices have degraded much quicker.
