If you’ve sideloaded Obsidian onto your Mudita K, how are you getting along with it?
Briefly, my experience was that it was very slow, unusably slow. Then I tried a few themes e.g. e-Ink, which was OK, but I’d like to mention the theme called ‘High Contrast’ (or similar). It switches the fonts and there is a noticeable difference in responsiveness using it. Prior to this, I dreaded to think how it would cope with hundreds of notes, but I’ve now uploaded 150+ notes to the device and using this theme, I’m hopeful that I might be able to use it.
(GBoard made a huge difference, too. Kudos to members on this forum for suggesting I try it.)
I tried Obsidian first thing out of curiosity when I received my Kompakt. While I’m a huge fan of the app I think I won’t be using it on the phone. This device is just not powerful enough for a pleasant experience. Secondly, I need syncing and I’m relying on a custom sync solution which most likely won’t work on the Kompakt.
But honestly, the longer I use the device the more I question the need of these apps on my phone. I see myself using the stock apps more and more.
I’ve been trying hopelessly for 1.5 days to sync to my Obsidian notes folder on my Mudita K with my Synology NAS via webDAV. On this you should discuss this with @kirkmahoneyphd. He’s achieved this. I don’t know how.
As for being under-powered, I’m inclined to agree with you. e-Ink device makers tend to do this, I’ve noticed. Whether it’s phones, notebooks or whatever else, they install a chip that’s 5-7 years old and pair it with a version of Android that’s a few years old and, then apply a custom skin with slide in/out effects and the whole thing just feels sluggish.
