System update failed

Hi all,

Sent an email to support as well but wanted this posted publically in case anyone else has the same issue.

Received my Kompakt today. When booting it, noticed a lot of apps and settings missing (app management, phone didn’t respond to tapping 7x for dev options and some other stuff). Went into settings, found out it ran on the Jan 29 2025 software. So I connected to my wifi, started system update. After the device rebooted, got this “Mudita System Updater App stopped working” and the device is basically bricked. It’ll lock, show the lockscreen and unlock but when unlocked just shows a blank screen.

Tried rebooting the phone, connecting to Mudita Center, rebooting into recovery mode, nothing seems to work.

UPDATE:
I followed a tutorial online to enter recovery mode (power + vol up button while device is off, go into recovery, when faced with “No Command” press power + vol up again to enter recovery menu). Factory reset my data which not only booted my device perfectly but also introduced me to the quick start, which I hadn’t previously seen. No clue what was wrong with my device but I’m happy I was able to solve it. The phone now says it’s up to date and the settings menu looks like the one I saw in youtube vids.

I can’t seem to connect to Mudita Center for now but I’ll sort that out over the weekend.

Thank you so much, I had the exact same problem. After the reset I also came into the quick start menu.

Did you already manage to fix the connection issue with Mudita Center? I tried it with different cables, different computers (Mac and Windows) and so on. Nothing seems to work

@fsnopi Is your PC/ Mudita Center not recognizing Mudita Kompakt? It could be the cable. Is it possible for you to try a different cable?

As stated above, I have tried different cables and different computers. The computers (Macbook and Windows) both recognize the Mudita Kompakt but Mudita Center does not.

Hi Urszula, I am using the cable that came with the phone. Will try a different cable tomorrow.

@fsnopi Our team asked if you tried to factory reset the phone. I know that’s could be a bit much if you’ve got all your things set up.

I did but it did not resolve the problem. I wasn’t able to setup the phone because it does not connect to Mudita Center. It is useless to me without my contacts and without sideloading Whatsapp. So I own the phone for a week and I have not been able to use it. This needs to be resolve ASAP

I have not received a response to my last mail to your support team. This issue is blocking my use of the phone. I own the kompakt for 1.5 weeks now and I have not been able to use it until now. I am really considering sending it back.

Please resolve ASAP!

Hi, I’ve read on Reddit apparently the phones running an older OS version are accidentally sent out “influencer models”?

I have replied to Support Monday 23, haven’t heard back since… considering I received the phone 2 weeks ago I’d like my issue resolved this week. We’re past the official return window now and I’m stuck with a device I can’t load my contacts onto because I can’t connect to Mudita Center.

@underthesign I am so sorry for the delay. Just to confirm, you would like to completely return your Kompakt for a refund?

No, I would like my issues resolved. On Reddit I’ve seen people also stuck on OS 0.0.58 have been offered a replacement. I’ll take any resolution that gets me a working phone.

Its been 3 weeks now since I received my Kompakt and its been 3 weeks of not being able to use it because it is not recognized by mudita center.

@urszula I have contacted support and only received an automatic response about using different cables and stuff. And I already tried that and wrote that in the mail. Now since couple of weeks no response from support even after asking for updates.

Im really fed up right now and I am considering a return if no fix is provided in near future.
