Syncing other calenders ie apple

Is syncing events (not contacts or anything like that) from other calendar sources ie. An apple ical calendar or a google calendar event and have them appear as synced events on your device calendar going to be a thing?
So I can add my apple calendar and it’s events is the idea.
It was in the early reveal emails and then got deprioritized I think.

:cheese: :cheese: :cheese:Yes, it will be a thing  Apple/Google calendar sync is something that we planning on implementing however, I’m not sure which update this will be in. I will ask the team and get back with info. :cheese:

That is exciting! I didn’t think that would ever be a thing! I didn’t realize how often my husband and I use our iPhone calendars to share events until we no longer could definitely not urgent for me but happy it’s a possibility.

As a workaround until they get it working with their app, I sideloaded F-Droid and used it to install DAVx (which syncs my contacts and calendar info) and then Etar (a calendar app because the Mudita calendar won’t load your events even when you import it through DAVx). I used it to sync with my Google calendar but after looking at their website, it’s my understanding that DAVx can sync with iCloud as well.

I don’t think so but I added this like a week ago so I could easily be forgetting something. I just added an account, selected Google Contacts/Calendar, logged in with my Google account (had to verify on my old device for 2FA), then opened ETAR and added my Google Calendar.

I hadn’t used DAVx before this so I was just following instructions that I found online.

Haven’t you tried to sync the contacts with DAVX?

Hey Urszula are there plans for syncing google calendar to the kompakt calendar in the future? Can’t remember if this was on the road map, also with stock calendar any plans to allow for repeating events, it is annoying to have to constantly put in events over and over again. Although I have found a work around. I use the alarm for repeating events in the mean time

I think there will be something like that, but I’m not sure if it will be connected- Google Calendar probably requires google services & with Kompakt it won’t work. BUT, I will check with the team & report back.

@anon7028788 I’ve moved your post to this thread, so it’s more easily found by other people searching for this info- and YES, back in June, I got info from my team that
" Apple/Google calendar sync is something that we planning on implementing, however it will not be ready at launch. It will be included in a future update."

Now, I will follow up to see what the time line on this is.

Thanks Urszula! Ideally the ability to sync to any CalDAV server should be possible, not just vendor specifics like Google and Apple.

@urszula than it will be great to add sync of contacts in the same time. both works with DavX so sync of calendar with built-in and having DavX for the contacts is for me a non-sense.

Unfortunately, I think the team has said that this will not happen. I believe it was posted several times here on the forum.

IS there a specific reason they are against it?

@anon7028788 From the info I got, Android (AOSP) technically supports CalDAV, but Google stripped it out of default builds; most phones have to rely on third-party apps like DAVx⁵ to restore this capability since CalDAV sync requires:

  • Network access (HTTPS)
  • Background sync capabilities
  • Access to the system’s calendar database

On a standard Android, that means using the SyncAdapter mechanism. On MuditaOS K we’d need a dedicated background service and calendar database schema that mirrors CalDAV fields (VEVENT, VTODO, etc.).

Since MuditaOs K is intentionally minimalist & privacy-focused, our devs would have explicitly implement this sync logic because it won’t “just work” like a standard Android with Google’s calendar stack. And as far as I know this is super complicated and our devs decided against it.

and icloud sync?

I personally feel when we can setup our icloud email and app specific password in the mudita center and it will sync (two way sync) our contacts every time we connect the phone to the computer that would be great. For calendar we need a more online solution to sync the calendar every hour or so but maybe the mudita mac app can somehow setup some rules on the mudita phone for the calendar so we do not have to set it up on the phone.

@dominick I’m not familiar with Apple products or iCloud, so I will have to ask the team about this.

Still hanging out to get the Kompact when this is implemented :eyes: any word on this feature @urszula ?

@grilledcheesebb Our team hasn’t given me a date yet, so I’ll ping them again…but guess what…guess where I am…with my Kompakt (which is working amazingly well)
