Supporting Locally Owned shops, Co-ops, and Charities

New user here, so apologies if this isn’t appropriate here.

I just bought my MK last week and it’ll be my first foray into dumb phones. Needless to say I’m incredibly excited!

Part of my journey towards privacy, security, and mindfulness has been motivated by an aversion to billionaires owning all my attention, information, and purchases. In this vein, I prefer the idea of my time and capital going towards worker-owned companies and philanthropy. I wonder if anyone knows of services, apps, etc. that allow for a user to identify businesses around them or online that support their communities and donate percentages of their profits to charities.

Think searching for coffee, and being pointed towards a company like good.store if you’re online, or being shown only locally owned coffee shops if you’re looking at a map.

Curious if any others on this forum might have ideas or potentially share my views.

Do you know of any apps or browser extensions that serve this purpose?

I know of EcoRate, helps you locate refill stores & eco-friendly cafes. I’m sure there are more, but I don’t know the names of them. Not the same, but I use Good On You sometimes to browse sustainable clothes. There’s also Commons app, here’s their website: https://www.thecommons.earth/

Otherwise, not-app related, but I like to use websites that are catered towards sustainable clothing/shoes/companies, etc.

Ooo, I like these. EcoRate is exactly what I’d be looking for only expanded to include other products. Also with an additional focus on socio-economic impacts of businesses.

I like commons too, seems like another great sustainability accountability app.

Yeah, there’s also a lot of sustainable store websites that cover anything from bathroom to bedroom to kitchen. If I were you, I’d look up one close to home. It seems like they are all over in multiple different states (Strictly talking about America. I’m not quite sure about the rest of the world). Although, I did stumble upon one in Mexico, which was pretty cool. Just search “sustainable sponges” or “eco-friendly alternatives” and there might be a store that is dedicated to that. Otherwise, I know of some in other states- I’d have to get back to you. I’ve signed up to their email, though. Also, there’s alwyays Etsy as well. They have a ton of alternatives. So, it’s almost like, you don’t necessarily need an app for it. Every website talks about their business, ethos, etc.
