Spoke — Community App Review
Version: 1.0
Spoke is a lightweight e-ink friendly Android client for BCycle bike share systems in Philadelphia, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. Designed for the Mudita Kompakt according to Mudita Mindful Design guidelines, this app provides a de-Googled and distraction free interface for finding local bike share stations, checking out bikes, and viewing your trip history.
Lately, the biggest pain point I’ve faced when taking my Kompakt out into the wild has been not being able to use the Indego app. Indego is a bike share program that operates in Philly that gives you access to a huge network of bikes placed all throughout the city. Indego has an app that lets you find bikes, unlock them, and then find docks to lock them at. Unfortunately, the Indego app uses Google Play Services and thus won’t run well on the Kompakt. After deconstructing the Indego app for another project I’m working on, I realized that it would be easy to build a custom Indego client for the Kompakt. Along the way, I found I could add support for other bike share systems as well with the foundation I’ve built.
This app will likely only be useful to a very small number of Kompakt users, but I poured my heart into making it useable for myself and wanted to share that with the community.
