I’m loving the Mudita Kompakt so far. Thank you for making a unique device focused on minimalism.
One issue I’m finding with it is that audio quality over bluetooth is poor. I paired my Sennheiser Momentum True Wireless 4 earbuds with both my iPhone 15 and my Mudita and the difference in quality when playing the same track on Spotify is significant.
Mudita should support better bluetooth audio codecs. I think it only supports AAC or SBC and both are quite lossy. AptX Adaptive and LDAC would be great.
As a workaround, I bought a Creative BT-W6 adapter. It connects via USB-C to the Mudita and I can pair the same earbuds to it. Sound is good that way but I’d prefer to not have to carry or attach this adapter.
If anyone is curious I can at least say that the BT-W6 does work. When I connect it I even get a headphone icon in the top status bar too.

I had to check it again, the Kompakt is using a Bluetooth 5.0. But this should not be an issue, as it supports both AptX and LDAC, I guess it is more about buying the rights to use Sonys codecs.

@dcardamo Thanks for the feedback. Do you have wired headphones? I’m just curious if you can tell the difference & how you perceive the difference. I have used BOTH wired & wireless headphones on my Mudita Kompakt (Sony yy2957 & Jabra Evolve2 65) and I really can’t head any difference. I’m curious how your experience is.
I haven’t tested the audio quality of the 3.5mm output on the Mudita yet. But it would be good if Mudita could have a good Bluetooth digital playback regardless. I’m certain that Mudita Bluetooth does not sound as good as the Mudita with the creative adapter attached.
Note that even if Mudita supports lossless file codecs (eg FLAC), it needs to support lossless (not not heavy lossy) Bluetooth codecs as well otherwise the quality gets dropped significantly.
I have a bit of experience in this having led the multimedia products for automotive and blackberry while at QNX.

@dcardamo Thanks for clarifying this. I’ll be totally honest, most of that went way over my head! Lossless codecs, Bluetooth transmission quality, Creative adapters… I kinda feel like I just walked into an advanced audio engineering class without my notebook.
I’m not very technical- I’m sorry. That said, I really appreciate the insight, and I’ll make sure to pass your feedback along to the Mudita team.
I know that there are some Bluetooth bugs that are being work on right now and they will be fixed in an update. Hopefully this helps.

One last reponse: LDAC eats battery like crazy so that is one issue. AAC should offer no significant quality degradation and is also the codec your iPhone uses. So I guess it must be a software issue.
