Someone asked about docking the Kompakt to a PC

I currently am running MicroG on the Kompakt, allowing for Google Messages support, which also ties into making a Webapp shortcut for web access for messaging from my phone remotely.

Vysor allows for settings to connect the phone to the computer with the display staying off. I also hotspot from the phone for work, and since it sits plugged it, I can charge it all while doing this and can even access the files I use on a daily basis on it while also reviewing events from the day in full quality on my Macbook. Once I get it figured out (QR Code scan process for google messages web link), I will be moving this setup to a VisionPro to focus on text responses only as Vysor is not currently supported atm but with google messages it’s not even necessary anymore!

Bonus, I can now text from Bora Bora on the Vision while getting the day started - should be able to from Mars soon too!

I recall your previous inquiries on this. Sorry to not get back to you sooner. At the time I first installed them, I didn’t have home internet and was relying on my Kompakt hotspot to get me by (downloading 750GB of data within a month - uses a bit of battery), so I was maybe getting 2 days of battery life at the time. Bear in mind that there are many other apps I use that suck battery, as I have always been more of a “power user.” Now I am seeing greater than 2 days of life with home internet, as MicroG is literally only used for Google Messages, which works like the standard SMS app.

I would say it’s a no-brainer to install just for the added benefits. I don’t have any other Google apps on this device, mainly because their interfaces don’t play well with e-ink, but for the messaging application and ease of sign-in when I do need to use a Google account to authenticate a calendar, for example, it’s worth having the accounts already signed in so I don’t have to either manually type them out (we all know it’s not easy to type on this device for a reason) or hook up to Vysor on my computer for ease of typing. I can say confidently that I would never notice it was installed except for the times when it gets called upon via softtware, and in those cases I am happy it is.
