SMS Not Working!

I recognize this topic has been explored but I’m having no success in resolving a really significant issue right now: when I go to open SMS it says ‘SMS Not Working’ and requests I close the app. Which I then do. I’ve tried force quitting, restarting SMS app; I recently completed a 2nd update through Mudita Control Centre; nothing is working and this issue is absolutely paralyzing my life due to work requirements, having kids who I need to be texting with, etc. I’m desperate and would appreciate some insights. Thank you in advance.

@graywinchell I’m sorry that you’re experiencing issues. Let’s see if we can help diagnose the problem. I think you also posted your problem on REDDIT, so I think you’re on version 1.3.0 of MuditaOS K.
What network/cell provider are you using & in what country?

Thank you. I’m with Telus in Canada. I don’t see how this could be a network issue though. The phone worked well for just under three weeks, and now the SMS app itself - not the cellular network - on the phone won’t open.

@graywinchell It’s just standard questions to eliminate all possible causes. I wil ask the team as to what could be causing this.
BTW, do you have any other sideloaded apps?

Hi again,
I just received what I think is a standard automated response from your company which suggested I check APN settings, inquire about network compatibility, etc. This is a huge misunderstanding of the issue I’m trying to communicate here. THE TEXTS ARE STILL COMING IN, though I can’t open the SMS app - it lags and then crashes and won’t actually open when I try to view my messages.

Yes I have two sideloaded apps - the aurora store, and whatsapp. I had gboard but uninstalled yesterday. Thank you.

This is good info. Let me get the tech team on this.

Thank you in advance and please forgive my urgent tone: the impact of this issue has huge negative implications on my professional life at the moment and I need to figure out a solutation ASAP.

I had the same issue with other Mudita apps (camera, voice recorder and more). Only factory reset helped. For me, it happened after Mudita update - earlier everything worked fine.

@graywinchell I just got some info from the team…

There is a high probability that deleting Gboard in a weird forced way caused that issue because SMS app doesn’t know which default keyboard to use right now.

So, yes, it looks like a factory reset is the way to go.

Hmm, okay - thanks for the follow-up. To clarify, I deleted Gboard AFTER the SMS stopped working. It was an attempt to see if Gboard had interrupted the function of SMS on the phone but it had no outcome i.e. SMS still remained unable to work even after deleting Gboard.
Do you still recommend a factory reset?

Installing/uninstalling an app (any app), shouldn’t cause your sms app to crash.

When you delete a keyboard app that was set to default, the fallback is to go to the default pre-installed one. So that shouldn’t be an issue.

But to make sure go to developer options a search Manage on-screen keyboards and see if the Mudita Keyboard is enabled/ set as default.

Also as a backup try sideloading QUIK sms app.
