My biggest pet peeve is the SMS counter. To understand why it’s irrelevant, please understand this context:
Like most people, I don’t send SMSs myself and don’t possibly expect a SMS back from a human
Because I block incoming calls from non-contacts, and I get a LARGE amount of spam calls every day, it results in a corresponding amounts of SMSs received per day, informing me that so-and-so number tried to call me
Therefore, I get a large SMS counter (in the app icon) and an obnoxious “34 unread SMS” text in the lock screen.
The few occasional times that I’m actively expecting a SMS (from my bank or other 2FA system), I have already unlocked my phone, so the lock screen notification will never be of use here.
Please understand that the amount of unread SMS is literally useless information for me. They’re all the byproduct of spam calls. I don’t need or want to be informed about spam calls.
I do want to be focused and distraction-free, which is big part of the Mudita promise.
Please add a simple toggle to remove SMS information from the lock screen.
If you navigate to Settings > System > Developer Options > Magnifying Glass Icon in Top Right Corner and search for “notifications on lock screen,” you can choose to allow no notifications at all on your lock screen.
Or you can remove notifications from the SMS application only by installing and opening Activity Manager and navigating to com.android.settings > .Settings$NotificationAppListActivity > SMS and deselecting “All SMS Notifications.”
Unfortunately that didn’t work. I still see a “5 unread SMS” text after a restart. Maybe it’s not techically a notification but an indicator of different type?
For many years now, people would laugh at one if one sent a SMS. Everyone is on Whatsapp or whatever app is popular in the given country.
Anyway, I’m not here to argue with the internet, I just want the original nuisance solved.
I think the problem here might be that Mudita has a custom lock screen in place, therefore it won’t respect your setting for hiding notifications. Has anyone tested this before?
Are you outside the US? For those of us in the US, SMS/MMS is far and away the standard for messaging (though RCS is taking off now, especially since Apple now supports it). Almost nobody uses Whatsapp/Signal/etc unless they’re very concerned with privacy.
Outside the US though I know SMS is much less common, I agree there should be an easy way to completely remove notifications at the very least. Also holy crap that’s a ton of spam calls per day, I feel for you.
