Apologies if this has been asked and addressed already…
I have previously sideloaded WhatsApp by finding a .apk file to download and install on the Kompakt.
Now WhatsApp has expired and I’ve only been able to find xapk bundle files. What do I do? And is there an easier way to update apps without going through this every time?
I downloaded WhatsApp here https://www.whatsapp.com/android with “Download WhatsApp directly” beneath GooglePlay.
@catan The easiest way is to install the Aurora Store & then get the WhatsApp from there. So, when there is an update, you can just get it straight from there.
Otherwise, you’d have to download the newsiest version from the Whatsapp website & sideload again, which, I do agree, is a burden.

I am still on the fence about whether or not I want to have WhatsApp on my Kompakt. The alternative is to keep it on my iPhone, and power that device on and use/update as needed, since I mostly use WhatsApp on a computer.

It reduces the battery significantly and now you’re open to group chats, you have to mute almost everything and it’s useless to look at pictures/videos on the MK.
It’s not peaceful anymore. Try it and you’ll see.
It’s ok if you keep killing WA after each use, and if you hide it from the app list (so you have to open it through Settings > Manage Apps - brings some friction). But it may not be necessary if you don’t have contacts who, if something urgent happens, calls you on WA and not just a plain phone call. Remember, you can always have Whatsapp on PC/Web, too. PC version requires kissing the phone via Internet every 2 weeks or so to remain connected.
