Sideloading apps

I’m not sure this is the place to be asking these questions. I appreciate that most (if not all) of us probably bought this phone because we believe in the ethos of the company to move away from screen time. However, like most, I find that there are some apps I would really like to use, and I don’t think will impact negatively on the less-is-more approach; namely Whatsapp and Spotify. However, despite many hours trying to sideload these apps, I’ve still not managed it. I appreciate that I am useless with technology. I’ve watched Andrew Folts youtube video (numerous times). People seem to rave about it, but in my opinion, unless you have a solid understanding of the terminology he uses already, it’s not a lot of help. If I explain what I’ve done so far perhaps someone could tell me where I’m going wrong?

Firstly, I’m using a Mac.

  1. I downloaded the Aurora Store apk to my desktop - AuroraStore-4.6.3.apk
  2. I downloaded the SDK Platform-tools.zip to my desktop and opened it with Archive Utility
  3. I plugged in my Kompakt to the laptop with the USB
  4. I went into “About”, tapped Build number" a number of times
  5. I went to “Developer options” and enabled “USB debugging”
  6. I opened “Terminal” app on my desktop
  7. I dragged the whole platform-tools folder to the open Terminal and dropped it in.
  8. I tried writing the command “adb devices” and “./adb tcpip 555” but it wasn’t clear that my device was found
  9. I tried writing in Terminal “adb install AuroraStore-4.6.3.apk” Nothing appeared on my device.
Once a message appeared on my phone to ask about allowing access from my computer (which I agreed to). But nothing else happened.
Any suggestions would be GREATLY received. Many thanks.

Thank you for the guide. When I get to the part to click on the blue connect button, it comes up with this; NetworkError: Failed to execute ‘claimInterface’ on ‘USBDevice’: Unable to claim interface. Any idea what this means? Thanks.

I think that means you have another program on your computer that is connecting to your Mudita Kompakt.
I’m not sure if it would work, but you could try to do
Settings > System > Developer options > Revoke USB debugging authorizations
(and also ensure USB debugging is switched on)
And then try again.

This is sooooo frustrating!!! I’ve tried that, and unfortunately it doesn’t work. As I didn’t have anything on the phone, I also tried restoring factory settings. Still doesn’t work.

Yeah that sounds frustrating. Hopefully you’re able to get it resolved :crossed_fingers:

Thanks. I did resolve it. I restarted my computer  and went through the procedure above :raised_hands: Thanks for this guide. I think for someone like me, this was much more straightforward than trying to write code on Terminal. I uploaded Aurora Store, and then downloaded Whatsapp and Spotify. Haven’t tried Whatsapp yet, but Spotify seems to work fine.
