@wander created several great replacements for the stock apps (e.g. clock, calendar, contacts, gallery, music etc.) which I use instead of the Mudita OS version. To make them function properly, I have to disable DuraSpeed for some of them and I guess that is the reason, that my battery drainage has significantly increased. I was wondering if the original apps (which I dont use anymore) are still running in the background and if so, if there is a way to prevent them from doing that by disabling or deleting them (possibly through adb?). I guess if it would be possible to really replace the apps, instead of running two at the same time, the battery drainage should be similar to that of the stock OS, right? Any tips or ideas about that?
Hi Hans, the stock apps don’t run unless you open them. I checked on my own Kompakt: none of Mudita’s apps had anything running, and over 7½ hours off the charger Android’s battery stats put all of them together at practically nothing. Disabling them won’t win back battery.
If you’d still like them out of the way, adb can switch one off without uninstalling it, and back on again:
adb shell pm disable-user --user 0 com.mudita.calendar
adb shell pm enable com.mudita.calendar
I’ve had Mudita’s Contacts off this way for a week with no trouble. I’d leave com.mudita.service, the launcher, settings, keyboard, dialer and messages alone.
Turning DuraSpeed off doesn’t cost battery by itself; it only stops the system closing an app that wants to keep working. So the drain will be one of those apps. On my phone it was Feeds: its hourly refresh was using more processor time than the rest of the phone put together. I’m fixing that now. Which apps did you switch DuraSpeed off for?
thanks for the quick reply. If the stock apps are not a problem battery-wise, no need for me to disable them.
I switched DuraSpeed off for Calendar, Clock, Messaging, DAVx5 and ICSx5, while having synchronization for the last two on once a day and signal messages set at “catch up now and then” to save battery. But I still feel like my Kompakt battery doesnt last several days anymore, like it used to.
That’s a useful list. On my phone those three cost very little: over 7½ hours off the charger, Calendar used about four seconds of processor time and Clock less than one. Messaging is the one doing real work, because Signal has to check in. On “Catch up now and then” it does that about every 15 minutes and whenever you open the app, so it’s a small cost, but not a once-a-day one. Kept connected, mine used about six minutes over the same stretch.
So I don’t think it’s any of those on their own, but I can’t see your phone from here. If you have adb, this lists what has used the most since the last charge:
adb shell "dumpsys batterystats --charged | grep -A25 'Estimated power use'"
The lines go by app number (u0a…), and adb shell cmd package list packages -U matches the numbers to names. If you post the top few, I’ll gladly take a look.
