I ordered a replacement screen and screen protector Monday evening after accidentally breaking my screen at work.
I was reading through how to replace the screen today as I’ve called several phone repair stores and no one wants to service the mudita kompact near me (Best Buy said they might try if I sign off any responsibility of theirs if they cause damage) and saw that the back cover as a required part for the screen replacement.
Can I use the existing back cover?
If it is needed, it would be helpful to put it in the description or sell them as a kit. I would have bought one with the screen and protector if it said it was needed in the description.
Update!!
My screen was replaced with no new back! I’m so excited!
My screen also cracked two days ago when I had the phone in my pocket with a key and key fob. I got the phone early on so the device was cheaper that what it is now. I saw the new display costs around $94.00 + $19.90 shipping which was about half the price of the phone when I purchased it and that is without any repair costs on top if I decide to repair it at home. I was hoping the display was going to be a little more durable. I was wondering on your thoughts on the cost and the process of getting a new screen. For me I am bordering just going back to my old phone as the repairability cost for me is going to justify getting a $24 ifixit kit or repair costs plus the display, with this going to void warranty.
E-ink displays are super fragile! However it seems u have broken the glass only not the display underneath. I would just keep it that way if the glass isn’t chipped and not hurting you if you touch it.
It may be stupid to recommend a hack, but I’ve seen the windshield crack resin being used to fill cracks in phone screens and then shaving the excess with a razor, so the glass becomes smooth again and the crack gets filled with epoxy resin and it’s less noticeable. If you try this just be super careful not to fill the earpiece!
I agree that 94+19.90 is a bit too much, but e-ink displays are expensive ![]()
Thanks @gezimos. I’ll give that a try
Yea, I would use yours as is. 3/4 of my screen was frozen on the Lock Screen image. The cost between the screen and repair was about $150 but the cost of the screen went up since I ordered mine.
I’m going to design a case with my husband to help protect this phone. We might post it on eBay if it turns out well. I agree that it’s more fragile than I was hoping, but hopefully it’s a lesson I only have to learn one.
