I have not really been active on this forum, although I am reading some entries and am also using inkOS - haven’t been able to download the new update though.
First I want to give a short summary of my experience, maybe also for people who are on the edge about getting a Mudita Kompakt and then I will sadly have to complain about something that really should not happen.
I have bought my mudita Kompakt after actually just wanting to buy a smaller phone. However, I came across the e-ink minimalist phone nieche and liked the idea instantly. I have used my Mudita as my only phone since August/September - I do not recall when exactly, as also my E-Mail address has changed.
About my experience with Mudita there are a few things to say.
I have really liked the idea and I knew full well that it will have all sorts of small software “issues”. I personally have no issue with it whatsoever, as I do not plan on living in my phone; that would be quite contrary to the idea in the first place. The issue that really annoyed me was that the phone calls were very quiet and when on speaker I always got told that it sound like I am outside in the wind. This got better or at least somehow fixed in the last update I think. Other than that there are some small issues but they do not really matter to me that much.
Another thing that was a bit of an issue is the pricing. Yes, the Mudita Kompakt is a very good and needed idea, but more than 300 Euros is really alot for it. Everything else would HAVE to fit for a price like that.
However, I know that it is difficult for small companies and I really dislike big tech so I was more than willing to pay the price. This price can be paid with conviction.
I use inkOS and am VERY pleased. I use WhatsApp and this is pretty much the most used activity on my phone.
Some people do not like the small screen and while I have to agree that pdf’s are sort of a pain to read, I like the idea of a small reading device that you can hold in your hands comfortably. I use Librera for e-books.
TLDR; If you want a phone that is more experimental and you have no issue in taking some slight issues into account? Buy a mudita!
Are you too much on social media and dont really need your phone except for some texting and light browsing? Buy a Mudita!
Now to the part that really bothers me:
My display broke down a few days ago. The screen is fine but the display beneath it is broken. It is unusable. It had a pixel issue when I got it but it didn’t bother me - you can see that I do not care too much about small issues - and so I didn’t do anything about it. I do not know if this could have played into it. Maybe it is conincidence but the “crack” seems to be exactly where that pixel was located.
How did that happen? It was simply in a pocket with another phone. In my opinion this should not happen. The Mudita website says that Mudita Kompakt phones are built to last long! I was willing to pay the money because I though I would have that phone for AT LEAST 5 years! Now I had it for less than half a year and I need to switch to my smartphone until I find something different.
If you have any more questions, feel free to ask. I am interested in whether this has happened to someone else.
I will contact the Mudita service soon.
