But first a brief history.
I lived about 4 years with a Punkt MP02.
Loved the size, very convenient, the design, the construction and the sounds.
Despite some little bugs for my daily use (or unuse, I quite just have a phone for « in case of) it was quite perfect and I get a batterie lasting for 5 days or so.
After about 2 years they launched a new batch and said they wouldn’t support the first anymore.
Wen travelling I took my iPad mini with me for the pics and others feature I could need that the phone hasn’t had. This combo was quite the perfect one.
Then I started to had physical keyboard problems.
I bought a Fairphone 5 under Murena’s degoogled OS.
My wife was very happy with hers Fairphone 3 for years and it as been a very durable and reliable device.
Worked perfectly for me too and was very convenient with the sync of contacts, calendar and ability to have all apps needed and the camera.
With that all I get 5 days battery life if stopping Wi-Fi and Bluetooth when not needed.
But sooo BIG.
Swiss provider stopped 3G so my wife needed a new phone.
I gave her the Fairphone5 and ordered me the Kompakt.
I unpacked my Kompakt last Sunday.
Device is nice and finish ok. Size is ok but should not be more.
Screen is nice but definition could be better, I’ve seen nicer eInk display.
Doing the setup was a breeze.
Loaded it full and tryed to import my contacts.
Connecting with MuditaCenter was impossible.
On Monday I tryed with other usb cable and it worked.
Phoning: nothing to say, sound is ok and clear
Contacts: I could (hardly) import my contacts but the type of the phone number was not imported (cellar, office, home etc…)
SMS: tipping is of course much convenient then with the MP02 but, when I send an SMS, the reply doesn’t comme in forme of a conversation. It’s a new one. If I answer the reply, then I have a conversation. But the first sms stay out of that.
Camera: it’s slow but results are quite nice and I love the focal length. Being forced to connect to MuditaCenter to get the pics is heavy. Connecting again was very painful again.
Maps: downloading the maps was easy and it seems to work.
After a week I still have 34% battery (I told you, I don’t use much).
Those where the only features I used.
Then came the update 1.2
The only positive I had is that my keyboard now had the « m », was missing before.
No more camera, connecting to MuditaCenter is now impossible.
My phone is now quit unusable.
Please Mudita, make something, at least the opportunity to return to the previous version till you solved the problems.
I agree with the refresh. I understand that the default e-ink mode is the fast refresh one, because for most apps that’s the best choice. But I don’t understand why they don’t change the refresh for e.g. the e-book reader and the home screen and make those slow refresh with no ghosting.
@shadock Thanks for sharing such a detailed review. We’re sorry to hear about the issues you’ve experienced, especially after the update. Your feedback about the SMS threading, contact import, and Mudita Center connection is very helpful. We’ve passed it along to the team. In the meantime, I will also ask about the update and camera problems. Thank you for your patience and support.
So update of the situation.
Connecting to MuditaCenter work if I launch it after connecting the device. Could sideload Signal and it worked.
Camera still doesn’t work.
Seen problem with contacts: no label on the phone number (office, house, cellar…) and, for the company (understand no name in the name field) just a number alone. Very annoying if, for example I wan’t to call my insurance if I have a problem on the road.
Yes I have started to edit the contacts (numbers without name) direct in the phone. But I have over 200 contacts, editing manually all is not an option. The import should have imported all the infos, they are in the vcf file.
+1, I’d love to import with a .csv or have an option to add contacts via Mudita Center.
Btw not being able to remove a SIM-stored contact on the phone itself is a bit odd. Not a big deal though when MC is available, that’s something.
My camera stopped working, it had worked since the update. Restart didn’t fix it but sliding the physical cut off button down and up did. I’d like to say it was logical deduction but no - random try every thing approach! Hope this helps someone.
Mmhh hard to say only on my computer I can open that and it opens as a text file.
Would you like to see how it looks like?
Either our Contacts are on a local NAS server and there’s no problem with iPads and all the phones we have had.
And the exported files where imported easily in the phones there doesn’t suppôt the syncing.
I can suppress Contacts in the Center but that’s all.
Other bug, in the Center I can see contacts in double and they are single in my phone…very strange.
@shadock For the contact information in a VCF file to show up correctly on Mudita Kompakt, each piece of information has to be saved in the right field. If your VCF file uses different fields than Mudita Kompakt, the details may not appear in the right place or may not transfer at all.
That’s why I included the CSV file for you so you can see the fields that are included in Mudita Kompakt.
I experience the same. But I think it has to do with the fact that I have Signal installed and the same contacts in that app. I do not see the duplicates for those that I don’t have a contact in Signal.
EDIT: Sorry, I thought the bug was when you tried sms or call a contact.
By me it looks like that (opened in a text app)
