Hello Everyone
I received my Mudita Kompakt yesterday.
Obviously I couldn’t make lots of test yet, but what I can already say is that I LOVE IT!
Things I love:
- SIZE. It’s perfect for my taste. I’m using an iPhone 13 mini everyday cause it is the form factor I want. I don’t like bigger phones. The Kompakt is a bit smaller than the IPHONE 13 mini , and of course the screen is smaller but I like the size very very much.
- I bought the White version and is EXCELENT. I bought the Sage green case (Beautiful color by the way) but I will use the phone without the case for now. I installed the screen protector before anything else.
- EINK. Of course I love the Eink screen. One of the most important reasons I bought it.
- SIDELOADING: More of this later.
Things I like:
- Small availability of apps.
- Ebook reader. One of the most important reasons I bought this phone. Eink and ebook reader. Perfect combination. I would like a bit of a crispier fonts in the ebook app. They look a bit “whashed out”. Very clear to be perfect to read. I would love to have more darker fonts. I hope in another update you can modify this and It would become a perfect reader for my taste.
- Weather works very well, BUT I would love to have a small widget in the blocked screen. That would be fantastic.
- Calendar. As a lot of people has said here, I would be great I we can synchronize the calendar. I need to be connected to my wife calendar cause she have lots of test and doctors due to her illness, and it would help a lot.
- Calculator. Works like it should.
- Camera: It works. I took a couple of indoor pictures and works. Not the best obviously, but I believe nobody will buy this phone for the camera and for taking pictures. Is a good bonus by the way.
Didn’t try maps, music, sms, alarm or phone yet so I can’t talk about them.
Things I don’t like:
- The inability to put some widgets (weather, etc) in the locked screen. Or anything else. It just has the small lock and feels “lonely”.
- Notifications. I would loved to have notification for a couple of apps that are very important for me, like my house alarm (can’t explain why here but I need it with notifications.)
:SIDELOADING:
I understand completely the philosophy of Mudita with the Kompakt, but I also think that we can use our phones the way we want, that’s why I think side loading if very beneficial.
I don’t use social media, and I am not attached or addicted to my phone, but I still need some apps to be in my phone.
When I received my Mudita Kompakt I side load some apps. I still need to try some more, but this is what I can tell from what I already try.
I sideload this apps:
- INSTAPAPER: This is the a great app for the kompakt. It works flawlessly and let you read all the things you have in the app. Like in the ebook reader it would be very good If we have the possibility to make the text crisper or darker so it would be easier to read. 9/10.
- UGREEN NAS: THIS IS GREAT. I have an Ugreen NAS and the app works perfectly. I can synchronize the photo gallery instantly with the NAS and you can have a perfect backup of the pictures of the phone in your NAS without the need of manual synchronization or anything else. You can play the music you have in the NAS without any problem. 10/10
- PROTON MAIL: It works. Doesn’t have notification. I believe you have to open the app to get the new messages, but it works. 6/10
- PROTON PASS: It works. Not in the same way it needs to work. Didn’t test it properly yet.
- FEEDER: It works correctly. I usually use Feedly. I still need to export/import the feeds but small test I made It works very good. 7/10
- TAPO (TPlink): It works. I need this to activate the camera and sensors in my house. It works correctly. 6/10
- Aurura Store and Fdroid: Works perfectly.
- READera: Ebook reader. Works very well. Books looks a bit crisper that the official ebook app.
- I need to test some more apps but not anything important for now. Just WhatsApp .
It’s obvious that a lot of apps don’t look very well and sometimes are difficult to navigate due to that they are not prepared for Eink screens but that’s OK.
Lastly I would like to say that If in future updates the native apps behave better than now, example: calendar synchronization, ebook screen issues, notes synchronization would be nice too, If this an another things are solved, I would love use the native apps. I would like to have the smallest amount of sideloaded apps really and It would be FANTASTIC if Mudita can make a native email app. (But I don’t think they will).
I am really very happy for now with the Kompakt.
- Very nice form factor
- Much snappier that I believe it would be.
- Lovely Eink screen
- Let’s see how the battery behave but if It last for 3/4 days I will be happy.
- The offline+ switch is very useful. Right now I am with the two phone and keep it almost all the time active.
- Not that difficult or frustrating to type with the native keyboard. (Didn’t try any other keyboard yet, and I won’t for now. We’ll see)
- I would like to have any kind of notification. That would be very useful.
When I can try maps and other apps I will update the post (if someone is interested
)
PS: Sorry If my English isn’t perfect. Not my primary language.
Thanks Mudita for creating an excellent phone, and I’am not alone when I say the we all hope in future updates you can correct and improve the OS.
