It has almost the same dimensions as the iPhone 5, just slightly wider and deeper. It is a good size for a phone, and I miss that size option. I am looking forward to understanding better how it will work with the apps so I can organize the next steps regarding my digital life.

PS: The “Control Panel Button” description has the same as the "Kompakt Form.”

It’s similar to the current iPhone SE (138,4x67,3x7,3 mm) and the iPhone 5 (123,8x58,6x7,6 mm) and deeper than both. The additional depth should imply better battery life.

The scrolling looks as smooth as it looked on other e-ink smartphones already available. It should be a pleasant experience.

@roberto should be fixed shortly, thanks for pointing that out. Fridays :see_no_evil:

@gmahale I can’t share specifics just yet, but yes, the bulk is basically because of the battery size we put inside. Let’s just say… no competitor even comes close

Tbf tho, it all comes down to optimization (which Eink is naturally efficient in), but there’s only so much you can do when the mAh is on the low end.

That’s a very good guess

Now that a lot more is clear about the display and dimensions, I am looking forward to information about supported apps and biometrics.

Two active SIMs?

This is also handy for those who have a second SIM only for 2-factor authentication.

Sweet!

Precisely! Glad you brought this up  @kirkmahoneyphd That was in our top three reasonings.

We’ll add this to the page next week, but Kompakts dual SIM tray also means the second slot can act as an expandable storage.

The second SIM could also be for a backup number from a different operator for redundancy or an international SIM while travelling. I noticed the slot in the SIM tray was a bit larger. You confirmed the possibility of using additional storage before I could ask.

I am also glad to see the camera is flush with the back. The Kompakt addresses a lot of what I dislike about smartphones these days - large displays, ugly camera bumps and the lack of a physical home button. How it deals with biometric authentication remains to be seen.

Great point! I have a Google Pixel 6 that I bought in like-new condition and that I de-Googled with CalyxOS. I use it without a SIM for listening to podcasts, for using the Activ5 exercise app, and for a few other reasons. The camera “bar” across the back of the Pixel 6 is a bit confounding – as if Google thought that it had to distinguish this cellphone from other cellphones. A camera at the level of the back surface would have been my preference, so I am glad to see that the Kompakt has a flush-mount camera. Yay!

I’m really looking forward to this phone becoming available and holding it in my hand and using it and talking about it with people who would like to simplify but not disconnect entirely.

I’m grateful for the headphone jack, as I use a wired airtube headset for all of my phone calls.

And the flashlight - I wonder if it will be a dedicated button similar to the Pure, I’ve found this so handy at night, one touch flick on / off.

The size is amazing! Smaller than the Pure!

The smooth rounded corners look nice and gentle.

The comment about battery life - ‘no competitor even comes close’ made my stomach lurch with excitement - less charging, greater efficiency. One of the things I have loved about the Pure.

It looks like there is a 2 option connectivity slider below the SIM tray - perhaps an offline type option? Or quick flick Airplane mode?

Looking forward to the reveals about SAR, tethering/wifi hotspot, available apps, how to update OS, software fixes etc.

I’m even (much to my surprise) enjoying the look of the white shell and black screen. I wonder if there will be colour options like and all white/pebble grey model or just the one type for simplicity.

Even the name has grown on me - still feels spikey with the 'K’s but the look of the handset is so smooth is gentle it’s creating a beautiful sense of balance within me presently.

Wow, there is so much to consider with technology - you guys are doing a great job in my opinion - go team Mudita!

There are only two physical buttons on the sides. The first one is, of course, the on/off switch. The second one is likely for an offline mode similar to the one on the Pure.

Three colours are expected - black, grey and white. I guess the front will be black in all cases.

I do not expect the battery life of the Kompakt to be comparable to that of the Pure. A smartphone is bound to have significantly lower battery life. But, the larger battery and e-ink display would imply something much better than other smartphones with similar dimensions.

Just out of curiosity @gmahale what would the OPTIMAL battery life be for you- taking into consideration what you already know about Mudita Kompakt?

I am currently using an iPhone SE. When it was new, I could just about manage a day on a full charge. The Kompakt has similar dimensions and display size, but is noticeably thicker. It would be good to be able to manage with a charge every alternate day.

I forgot to mention NFC for contactless payments. And, I’m taking for granted the display has matte glass.
